Hometown Bakery became part of my Sunday routine over the past year…Unfortunately, I will no longer be a patron of this bakery or recommend them to others - as I’m a true believer in supporting local businesses. Never again will I step foot in this bakery! The treatment I received this past Sunday by the owners and their staff was disgusting and despicable. I picked up my order and when I got home we were given either someone else’s order or they just made us the wrong items. Could have been a very simple mistake right? Not to the owners of Hometown….We called to let them know that we did not get the right food. We were told “that’s your order - that’s what you asked for - there is no mistake.” I couldn’t believe it and called back to speak to the owner who was beyond obnoxious and unwilling to correct the mistake. I explained to her that This was food we NEVER would have ordered and I just spent $30 on 2 sandwiches we won’t even eat and paid for 2 donuts and only got ONE She HUNG UP ON ME. I called back and she refused to come to the phone - and made one of her teenage employees take the call. I was hung up on AGAIN! Now I’m upset and not willing to accept this treatment from a business that just took my money and could have very easily just made right on the mistake by making 2 new sandwiches and giving us the other donut we paid for and didn’t get .…that’s all we wanted was the food we ordered. I call back and I get the 2nd owner who proceeds to ask me in the most sarcastic, mocking manner….”what do you want us to do for you come to your house and pick the vegetables off your sandwich for you???? You know there are bigger things in life to worry about - hopefully one day you realize that.” As she proceeded to laugh. I was stunned! I literally couldn’t believe it. How does this owner know what her customers are going through in their lives to be so condescending?? There was a reason we couldn’t eat the sandwiches they gave us - but do I need to explain that to them? The answer is NO….I suppose Hometown Bakery doesn’t mind loosing customers like me who went there every weekend and recently spent 100’s of dollars over the recent holidays on their pies/desserts. These owners should be ashamed of themselves - what a disgusting way to model customer service to their young employees too. Clearly, NOT modeling “the customer is always right” philosophy - instead just laugh at them, mock them, hang up on them…and don’t make things right is the business model for Hometown. Good job, owners! You just lost a...
Read moreIf it were possible to give zero stars, I absolutely would. My experience with this business was nothing short of appalling and demonstrates an outright disregard for basic customer service. I had a prepaid, prepackaged order with a designated pickup window from 12-6 PM. I arrived at 11:40 AM, fully aware I was slightly early, but given that the order was already paid for and ready, I didn’t anticipate this being an issue. Unfortunately, I was met with a level of inflexibility and rudeness I’ve never encountered before.
The staff outright refused to hand me my order until the clock struck exactly 12 PM, even though it was visibly prepared and within their reach. This might have been tolerable had I not been juggling three young, cranky children who were clearly struggling alongside me. Instead of showing any compassion or making the slightest effort to help, the employees stood idly by and watched me struggle, ignoring my requests and offering no assistance.
The situation only got worse when the manager—or perhaps the owner—stepped in. Rather than showing any empathy, she doubled down on the staff’s behavior, justifying their actions with the absurd excuse that she has four children, as if that gave her the right to treat customers poorly. This reasoning was not only irrelevant but shockingly condescending.
When the clock finally struck 12, it still took them an additional seven minutes to hand me my order, which had been sitting there the entire time. The level of inefficiency, combined with their unapologetic attitude, was truly infuriating.
I have never in my life encountered a business that seems to go out of its way to inconvenience its customers, penalizing them for arriving slightly early—even when the order is fully paid for and ready. The lack of basic courtesy, the rude and dismissive behavior, and the outright indifference to a customer’s circumstances were beyond unprofessional.
This experience was not just frustrating—it was infuriating, insulting, and entirely unacceptable. I will never be returning to this establishment, and I will ensure others are aware of the abysmal service they can expect here. This business clearly has no interest in valuing its customers,...
Read moreWe have been going here for a few years now. Over the past 2 months I went there from Lindenhurst 3 separate times. Everytime I went half their case is empty. We usually go for the pies and the brownie bars. Pretty much what they are known for. All 3 times I go around 10- 11 am. Same story oh we didn't make them for today. I also asked if they only make them on certain days the response was no we make them all the time we ran out today. I actually told them that's what I was told last time. I asked when they are making them again I am always told next week. Correct me if I'm wrong but if you make them all the time how do you run out of them and not have then everyday? Today I went and all they had was scones. Not one other thing in the case. When I asked today why they didn't have anything else besides scones they said we were busy because of mother's day. It's now Tuesday 2 days later. I would think if you sold out of everything on Sunday what are you waiting for to make more stuff?? People will get tired of this and stop going and the business will close then the owner will want everyone to gather together to save the shop. I have to be honest with the rude reviews and never having what people like they are asking for people not to shop there. They have unique items there that are better than most and I know in the past alot of people go there. They have a gold mine there but will loose it. The last 3 times I went there were hardly anyone in the shop eating or buying. Other times I went they were always busy. A few other people I turned on to this bakery feel the same way. When they go they barely have anything anymore. I won't waste my time going there anymore. Any trip there I spent atleast $100 in bars and pies atleast once a month. They must have enough of their own money they don't need...
