I needed a getaway and had never stayed at a real B&B before, and I booked pretty last minute. Luckily Wendy and Russ had a room available! I stayed in the Seneca room, which has a full bathroom attached to it. Wendy and Russ were home to greet me when I arrived, and they suggested a couple of places for me to eat dinner nearby or grab a wine tasting after 5:00 (which is the typical winery closing time). The breakfasts were fantastic! Fresh brewed coffee as soon as I came downstairs in the morning, fresh fruit, yogurts, pastries/coffee cake, and then a main course of a frittata or quiche or sausages or breakfast nachos! I had huge breakfasts each morning that fueled me to hike at the state parks around the area (and they gave me a to-go container so that I could take a snack on my hike if I needed one). I didn't need lunch until 3:00! The bed was very comfortable, towels were large and plentiful, and the room had AC. Wendy and Russ live on the first floor of the B&B, and they hosted a camp fire one night for all the guests, made dinner and fed me and the other couple who were staying at the B&B one night, and generally made me feel welcome without being invasive or overbearing. What a pleasant first stay in a B&B! I'd love to go back.||Location-wise, the B&B is midway down the east side of Seneca Lake, which means you get sunset views. There are several restaurants nearby, and Wagner Winery (and other smaller wineries) are very close as well. It's also only a 20 minute drive to Watkins Glen and a 35-40 min drive to Ithaca. I thought this location was ideal for a waterfall + winery...
Read moreWe had the best time here. We were greeted by Schnitzel, Wendy, and Russ when we arrived. They are very sweet and accommodating. Our stay came with a very nice cheese tray, which included multiple varieties of cheese on it. It paired perfectly with our local wine. On the 2nd day of our stay, we had a fire in the back yard and had a great time sitting with the other couples and the owners chatting and laughing. They are super down to earth and nicest people you will meet. Our room was great, and the bed was so comfortable that you felt like you're at home. We have not slept this well on vacation in a very long time. Breakfast was amazing both mornings. We had stuffed French Toast 1 morning and Huevos Rancheros the next morning. There is a pond in the front yard that has a bunch of frogs and tadpoles in it. I can watch the water cascading down the waterfall into the pond. There is a huge porch we sat on each morning and evening. You can look out at the lake and in the evening we watched the sun setting. The Fox and the Grapes bed and breakfast is close to many wineries, distilleries, and breweries. There is also a trolley in town you can purchase tickets for, and they will take you to some of the wineries on the lake so you dont have to drive. We had some a fantastic time and will definitely be...
Read moreMy wife and I stayed at the Fox & Grapes in December 2013 for the Deck the Halls event weekend. This B&B was fantastic in all the important areas:
location = perfect, just minutes from wineries and places to eat (try Dano's, it was great)
Rooms- nicely kept, tastefully decorated in period victorian style, and very comfortable. Wifi worked fine. While I didn't mind that there was no TV in my room, others who are more picky may wish to have the TV (you're in wine country though!).
Breakfast was excellent. The owner of the B&B is a talented chef who cooked a wonderful breakfast for all those staying at the B&B.
Staff- courteous, quiet, and very informative. They can recommend places to go and also offer brochures/print info that they have on-hand.
Overall, this B&B was great. in my opinion, it's a much better alternative than spending similar amounts of money at a dump motel/hotel that is miles and miles away...
