Last we were here it was the definition of hospitality, cleanliness, and high-end boutique hotel vibes. The new owners seem to have lost all of that in record time. I’ll start with the worst and most serious experience - which was with the completely unhinged individual who was in charge of the spa/hot tub/game room area on our first night. We had our allotted hot tub time and went to shower and dry off, well before the cabana building was set to close. While we were showering he started banging on the doors and shouting at us that he needed to leave. I thought it was odd and impolite, and just called out “ok have a good night” in response. As we tried to finish showering he again started banging on the doors and yelling with malice at us and then ACTUALLY CAME IN to both bathrooms, eyes ablaze. He started (literally) screaming and pointing at us to “get the hell out”, screaming he needed to leave and started slamming all the doors in the facility. He walked in on my wife while she was undressed and my son changing as I was in the shower to yell at us. We were seriously afraid of him, especially our child, and considered just leaving that night. I have never been worried we might be hurt by a staff member at a hotel before. I did run into the manager just after, visibly shaken, and told her we had just had an inexcusable experience in the spa but I was too upset and angry to go into it. She did not push for details and went back into the office. Needless to say it totally put a damper on our vacation. We actually pulled a coffee table in front of our room door for the rest of the stay so we could feel more comfortable at night since he knew our room number. On checkout we told the manager about our experience and she did apologize, but not in a way that made me feel she really cared or understood how serious a violation that was. When I asked if other guests had issues with him she shared that there had been complaints about him before but not like that. She said “maybe we will try to comp something on your room” (which she knew had no charges from our check out discussion moments earlier) and I’ve heard nothing since. I really thought a fail so completely egregious would warrant a follow up apology email- but no.

I can’t really speak to general hospitality as there seemed to be no staff around. They have decided to go the not cleaning your room or providing fresh towels unless asked route. Questionable at 500+ a night, but they don’t even come in to collect the garbage. When I requested someone come and clean out three days worth of trash the lady just knocked on the door, handed me some garbage bags and told me to leave the trash outside. Overall our room felt very downtrodden, not at all like our previous experience. It smelled musty, the bathroom mirror was cracked, the toilet paper holder was broken so the roll just sat on a shelf above the toilet, and the caulking around the tub was falling apart. The courtesy umbrella was missing, which was unfortunate because it did rain during our stay. And for some reason they left robes only for two of the three of us in the room. I guess they don’t feel kids want to share in a fun part of the vacation experience like their parents get to.

And so many amenities were out of order. We stayed on the ‘motel’ side and they did tell us that the hot tub was broken before we came up. But then when we got there we found out the main pool heater was also broken when we jumped into icy water. Another family came over to say it was too cold for them too. Every guest in the hotel was fighting for hot tub time in the one remaining usable spot. The gym was also closed, and the motel fire pit remained covered the whole time we were there. It just felt like everything was in a state of decline. We won’t be going back, it’s not worth the money and it no longer feels like a charming and happy place to be.

Do better new owners or you will not be having repeat customers. Except maybe the police if you don’t fire...

First and foremost, I have to give a big gracious amazing shout out to Greg, and his staff. When we arrived on Tuesday evening, after a long day on the road, we had the absolute pleasure of meeting Greg and Joseph in the parking lot. The big Lime Color pickup truck instantly put a smile on our faces. The temp outside was probably around 5 degrees, but the HUGE Smile and "Welcome!" they extended towards us felt so genuine, that we warmed and perked right up! If you are visiting, you have to make it a priority to meet them both.

We booked a stay in the "Enchanted Forest" studio suite, which was cozy, warm, and colorfully pleasing. The bathroom further had all the modern comforts one could expect in a Los Angeles Five Star Resort hotel. Huge fan of the Wasabi Hand soap from Lather. We ate at the nearby Public House restaurant up the street, and called it an early night, but not before taking a colorful night time photo op in front of the Roxbury.

The next morning, we expected to "check out" the continental breakfast, and thought a trip to Cassie's would be in our routine afterwards. But the only way to describe the breakfast was summed up in our combined, "saaayyy wwhhhhaaattt?!" They had fresh deli meats (ham, turkey, salami, cheeses), regular and whole wheat english muffins, mini muffins, fresh fruit (blueberries, oranges, bananas, apples), an assortment of AMAZING Jams and Jellies, varieties of oatmeal, cereal, milk, granola bars, mini cinnamon buns, AND THE MOST AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS COFFEE CAKE I HAVE EVER HAD. Our quick bite, turned into a long enjoyable meal before heading up the mountains for skiing. Greg happened to stroll out around the corner while we were giggly taking in the whimsical (and very comfortable) seatbelt chairs, and asked how our stay was going thus far, and what our plans were for the day. He recommended Peekamoose for dinner if we had time later on, and told us about the weather forecast for the day. He also let us know that if we needed lift tickets, they have a deal worked out with Plattekill for a discount.

After a long day of skiing, we ended up at the Public again for dinner, and strolled back home to call it a night. This is when we noticed a chocolate bar next to the bed, and like two kids on halloween night, we watched scary movies on the TV and ate chocolate in bed until we went to bed. It was seriously another giggle inducing little touch that the Roxbury just continued to surprise us with.

DID I MENTION THE TOWELS? OMG I WANT TO LIVE IN THE TOWELS.

The next morning, we had minor noise issue with a family vacation that came to stay next door, and they all seemed to be just as excited as we were, but it was a little much for us 9pm sleepers. Greg and Colleen were already on top of it in the morning, and had us moved to the Partridge Family suite when we finally wandered in for breakfast. We had the pleasure of experiencing this room, and its quiet quirkiness, (validated by missus snoring...) The room was warm, the bed was soft, the view from the backside door was stunning, (we stargazed for a bit on the back porch)

Greg checked with us in the morning, and again, that incredible smile of his, and genuine interest in our stay, was a breath of fresh air. We let him know that we were ecstatic with glee, our bellies full, and that we could barely wait until our next trip to the Roxbury again!

Four Nights was simply not enough time to take in the amenities (THEY HAVE A SPA, HOT TUB AND MASSAGES!!)

To sum this up, if you have ever wondered what it would be like to stay somewhere that puts the visitors joy, pleasure, and happiness above all else, and you enjoy being pampered and treated like a visiting king and queen, all while experiencing firsthand what Disney World probably should be more like, then The Roxbury Motel NEEDS to be...

My kids and I are doing 4clsroadtrip this summer. There are several libraries in the Delaware County. I looked at all the hotels/motels around and decided to spend a night in the Roxbury Motel. From the website, I could feel the details and immense hard work people put in to provide the unique experience. We got the Marias Curtains (inspired by the Sound of the Music) The parking felt a little tight, but we were lucky that our side didn't get as crowded (yet) on Tue night. We were on the second floor and there was no elevator. Luckily, we managed! Lots of restaurants are only open from Thur to Sun. Getting food in that area may be challenging during early weekdays. There was a serious lack if labor. Delivery in the area was slow. (I hope 4cls can generate more tourists. There is still over a month to complete the roadtrip. I believe lots of my library friends and enthusiasts would love to take the challenge and possibly some recommendations from my experience) Anyways, we entered the office and the lady worked there was extremely welcoming and nice and helpful. My 3 yo loved all the funky skeleton furniture and lost her mind right from the start of this adventure. The card didn't work very well to open the door. It took several tries to get to the magical angle or luck or whatever before the door became unlocked. When I opened the door, my kids (6, 3, and 1) were wowing non-stop. They believed they entered some fairy tale land. (Wait until you see their Genie room when yomama saves up more!) I loved the pool pictures but didn't schedule because of many uncertainties(weather, our travel schedule with 3 kids, etc) I loved how sanitizers could be easily found everywhere. The tub was amazing. It was big enough to fit everyone in there. It was clean. The water temperature was easy to control and maintain. It made up for missing the pool. The pull out beds were fun for the kids. The fridge didn't have the frozen compartment but the ice machine was right outside our door. The room had great sound proof (or we didn't have neighbors) It was very quiet. The toilet was in a further room which was nicely and subtly heated which was very nice. The tile by the bathroom mirror had someone's signature and the font reminded me of the beginning credit of AHS (:p) I enjoyed all these details. I would say that for people with small children, the glass surfaces on lots of furniture might need more attention. Luckily mine didn't decide to do anything crazy that day. One of them kept trying to dial the phone and pull all the tissues out from the side tissue box whenever I looked elsewhere. The breakfast needs registration online. It was easy to order. They delivered them to our room. We wished we could stay longer or check out other rooms there, so all of them decided to make some sad grumpy faces when we were leaving. I hope 4cls can continue the roadtrip game and hopefully coordinate with businesses in the area more(restaurants, hotels,...) because there are lots of people who like to travel. I had to do lots of planning on my own and many people didn't have the time to even plan. There's so much to love in this area. (Try driving from Roxbury Library to Cannon Free Library. I almost cried when I drove on a tiny road across the bridge. That was the moment when I truly felt "the hills are alive..." I also hope the Roxbury Motel continues to do very well and expands the experience in...
