I would like to say that I normally don't write reviews, but given our stay at Seven on Shelter, I felt compelled to write this.
In no uncertain terms, my fiancé and I could not have asked for a better place to celebrate our anniversary and her birthday. I am someone who grew up on the East End and would regularly go to Shelter Island many, many times per year. Finding a place to stay on the north and south forks can be difficult, especially when you want to find that perfect mix of home and away. Seven on Shelter does just that. The main guest house is incredible, and right from the first time you enter, you feel like you're 'at home' and not at some sterile hotel. The rooms are spacious and comforting, while being exceptionally clean and well maintained. Beth's team are all so nice and helpful, acting more like a high-end hotel's hospitality crew than what you would normally think to have at a BnB. Each morning, there is an awesome breakfast spread for all to enjoy, with pastries, fresh fruits, coffee, teas, and more. Best of all? The BnB says they serve breakfast until 1030 (but it even stretched into 11) which means you can sleep in and not bust your butt to simply make breakfast (there are also complimentary tea, coffee and other nice little snacks available throughout the day, and there booze available for purchase). Once we got our plates made, without asking, Beth's crew helped get us settled at a nice table near the pool. Nice little touches like that matter. The downstairs has numerous places to sit and relax, all while feeling you're at a really nice home, which is exactly the way it should be out east (IMO). Beth also keeps a long list of places to go and things to do, so you'll be as active as you want to be.
We had a car, but given the location, the bikes available, and that town is less than a mile away, Seven is perfect for those who are sort of being plopped onto the island without their own transportation.
While only a relatively short walk from the beach, it was incredible to have Seven's wonderful pool available to us, which we made sure to use as much as we could. We even met another friendly couple and had drinks by the pool together. Completely organic, and just another really nice quirk of staying at a BnB with not many rooms. It gives it a friendly, but respectful atmosphere, and it's the kind of place where you could see the other guests or not, it's really up to how you want to go about your stay.
Lastly, Beth is truly as responsive as the rest of these reviews claim her to be. When a minor issue arose, Beth quickly resolved it and then some. Beth constantly made us feel like we could reach out to her for anything, which just further endeared us to Seven. At first, I was pretty skeptical about this place based on the reviews, because no place could be this universally loved, right? Wrong. After staying at Seven, I completely understand why it has such consistently high reviews.
5/5, would totally stay there again, and honestly? We are already looking to book something...
Read moreAbsolutely a perfect stay at Seven on Shelter Island! The location is ideal being just a short walk, bike ride or drive to Crescent Beach. The style of the property, created by the owner Beth, is unmatched by any other property with an impressive attention-to-detail both inside with stunning artwork, a display of beautiful books and games in one of the lounges as well as outside with a wonderful Inviting Heated Pool ( which we dipped into more than once) , Lounge Chairs, Umbrellas , Firepit and Manicured Gardens surrounding the deck. Baskets of Pool/Beach Towels were noticeably available as well as Insect Repellent, if needed, before trekking into a preserve on the Island. Our Guest Room was stylish, stunning, inviting and extremely clean including the bathroom and private deck. The Bathroom included Luxurious toiletries, bathrobes and spa like towels which all were a welcoming addition and nice touch. The King Size bed was so comfortable that my husband enjoyed sleeping in one day while I hopped on the Peloton Bike in the Gym area before Breakfast. WOW is all I can say about The breakfast created by Patrick which had a European elegance that included Croissants, Fruit and Berries, Juice, Yogurt, Cheeses, Organic Eggs and more and was slightly different each day and 100% Delicious!! Each morning, while enjoying our coffee and breakfast on the deck, overlooking the stunning view of the heated pool, the beauty and serenity of Seven shines even if the sun wasn’t. Seven has a beautiful appointed gym area within its own space. Sliding barn doors open to allow for summer breezes and a view of the Heated Pool. The gym area includes a Peloton bike, a Workout Streaming Fitness “Mirror”, Indoor Row Machines and other equipment /amenities for your workouts. The staff at Seven are so personable, accommodating, friendly and exceptional in their respective roles!! Beth, the owner, made us feel like family and we even got a chance to play with “Peaches”, her lovely Weimaraner. Beth is a kind, welcoming and sweet Host. She went above and beyond for us and any other guest(s)! Being our first time to Shelter Island though we grew up on Long Island, we’re grateful we found this true hidden gem on Shelter Island. For a truly new experience, we took her recommendation to attend a rehearsal concert at the Perlman Music School Program, which was just around the block! The gifted talent of the young string players was hugely entertaining and amazing to watch including their respect and rapport with Mr. Perlman. We will definitely stay at Seven over any other property/hotel on Shelter Island!! Looking to be back here in the...
