Such an insane experience, it’s taken me two days to comprehend what just happened to us! Of course the beach is beautiful and the views are great! But I the weirdest people worked there, like they were doing us a favor. To start non of our outlets in the room worked, we went downstairs three times the first day- smiling totally understanding- to tell the girls ( the only nice people there!) and nothing was done to fix it (other rooms were available). Maintenance randomly decided the next day (after earlier in the day saying something inappropriate to me when going to sit on bike) he decided to shout up to me while I was relaxing on the porch to ask if we wanted him to come up there and check the wires, at this point I said no. Completely done with this place we would walk down the road for any drinks or food. The first night there we had reservations but first went there for drinks and were not greeted just looked at while standing at the empty bar full of wasps. Mind you we were paying to be $200 to be treated like this for a few drinks and two appetizers. We would have excepted this and found somewhere positive/normal to go but we had reservations that charge you a $100 for cancellation we considered it! My boyfriend still determined to turn things around because again we were stuck going there gave someone money for a certain table and when we came back they sat us somewhere else because those seats were going to some other party in the future which never happened. Fine. That night after the bar closed the staff hung out all night and blasted music but we were relieved they’d be off the next day and gone but noooo they ended up having a beach party the next day and after a bemoaning of sunbathing and getting in the mode of OUR VACATION we reluctantly left the beach early cause there vibe was not what we paid for :) we went back to our room to the deck to relax and figure out where to go- or run to just for them to take over the bar and restaurant all night long!!! Music blasting, girls and guys screaming- next to our room with no working outlets and half naked staff blasting music and screaming like clothes were coming off hahahaha we had to stay on our porch and then sleep through this club next store and n the beach. We paid so much money to not be treated like crap, have no working staff and he treated like we were worked there and we were intruding. I was getting stared at by drunk staff for sitting downstairs at the hotel I paid for like I was intruding. So we paid to get tortured and disrespected. Such a scam! So much money wasted, disgraceful business practice. It felt like no adults were there, can only imagine what the owner is like and I’ve worked in hospitality most of my life, ran places and have had my share of fun but not while there were customers paying for service. This was a hostage situation, and such a horrible way to spend a few thousand dollars....
Read moreDuring our brief day drip to Shelter Island, my boyfriend wanted to check out Sunset Beach (and so the review is based only on the restaurant/bar and not on the hotel itself). So I made a late lunch reservation at the restaurant. We pull up to the hotel in our car and already see a party scene that looks more appropriate for Montauk or the Hamptons. As the hotel parking lot is roped off, I hop out of the car to ask if we can park there given we have reservations (we got there right at 3:15PM for our 3:15PM reservation). The guy who was manning parking said we had to park further down the street on the beach side of the hotel and that he sees no reservations until 4PM. Confused, I went to the hostess who asked me if the parking people were giving us trouble. She comes with me back to the parking lot and tells the guy to let us in because we have reservations, to which the guy then gives some weird response thinking I was asking for other people. We park the car and were told by the hostess that our table would be ready soon. We were led to a table that wasn't ready for us before redirected to outdoor seating on sand. The waitress we had seemed underenthusiastic in her demeanor. We opted not to stay long and just snack on the warm artichoke and warm petite Basque cheese. I had a Summer Fling cocktail. Everything was okay, but rather expensive for what they were. Adding the mediocre service made the experience feel as if coming to Sunset Beach was all about the scene and not about the experience itself. The only bright point was the hostess who went out of her way to come with me to sort things out with the parking lot and made sure we were seated as soon as possible. Otherwise, save your dining experience for classier places like the Pridwin or...
Read moreThe service here is absolutely horrific. Upon arrival our room wasn’t “ready for us” and we had to wait almost an hour in their loud bar area to check in. We decided to let that slip and try their restaurant for dinner. Worst mistake we’ve ever made. It took 35 minutes to receive our cocktails, which were water by the time we got them. Once we were able to finally order (an hour and a half later while our server danced around the patio with bus boys) our appetizers were delivered to the wrong table, which resulted in them running out of our $100 worth of appetizers, which were not comped from the bill. Same thing happened with our entrees, same thing happened with our bill. When we asked for the check to just take the loss and leave, our “server” aggressively demanded we order dessert and made my wife and our friends extremely uncomfortable. When the check finally arrived, it was for the full cost of everything we ordered and never received, and when we questioned our “server” as to why we’re paying for food we never got he put on a massive scene and made my wife cry. I paid in full, and tipped 15%. This led our “server” to yell at my wife AGAIN questioning her why he didn’t get 20% because “his service was impeccable” ||Absolutely abysmal service, insanely rude, disturbingly entitled, the least relaxing beginning of a vacation we’ve ever experienced. I just booked a new hotel in Greenport and will never return to this dump...
