There's no way anyone who actually "slept" here would give this place 5 stars. They're obviously locals trying to boost this rating. Pros: It's an 1800's hotel. The door locks. There's a flushing toilet. There's an air conditioner Cons: The mattresses are still from the 1800's. Might have been better off taking the mattress off and sleeping on the box spring. The doors are flimsy, locks are keyed entry, not very secure. The bathroom was dirty, nobody showered, we felt it was cleaner not to. Air conditioner was loud. The ENTIRE building reeks of cigarette smoke, and when we entered the bar to pay for the room, people were smoking. Is that even legal in NYS? They advertise 29.99 for a single room, with one bed. Ours was $80.00 for two. If they'd advertised the double bed price, I don't think I would have driven to Wolcott to get a room. At least I can scratch staying in one of those old time hotels, which always seem to look seedy, off my bucket list (I have a strange list)... But I definitely didn't sleep. We were out by 7:45am. Do yourself a favor, save 80.00 and sleep...
Read moreI'm sorry, I haven't stayed in this place for over a year, but I will never forget this dump. For anyone thinking about staying here- DON'T DO IT! Honesty, drive up near the chimney bluff area about 15-20 miles away and try to stay at one of bed and breakfasts. What's wrong with this place? EVERYTHING! There is an extremely thick stench of stale smoke that permeates the entire hotel, including the rooms. The windows are sealed shut, so there's no way to even open them and stick your head out (which trust me, you'll want to do). Everything feels dirty and is stained (including lampshades - seriously). And I woke up in the morning to the harmonious sounds of rats in the wall (note the pluralized form). It's sad that this place hasn't been loved, because the old structure is really nice. To the owner(s): stop allowing smoking (ps, I'm even a smoker), allow your windows to open, scrub those rooms down - and probably repeat that process a several times, change the beds and bedding, and get an exterminator. Then maybe you'll deserve a second star. Seriously, DO...
Read moreIf I could give this zero stars I would. Driving from AZ to VT my husband and I needed a place to say as we were too fatigued to continue driving. We stopped at the gas station up the street from this hotel and asked about hotel/motels close. They advised of this hotel. Checked the website for price's and got the phone number. Called and called and called no answer..... Went to the place as we were just down the road from it and there was no one there to help us with a room. We ended up having to sleep in the parking lot of the gas station so we didn't fall asleep behind the wheel. We were tired travelers hoping to get rest before the last few hundred miles...
