Short Version: The KOA of Traveler’s Rest is the conditionally perfect place for you if you are straight, bible thumping, do not have any pets, and you go to bed by 10pm.
Long Version: My husband and I stumbled across KOA in Traveler’s Rest as the campground we selected from the internet was a complete ghetto and the electrical wiring destroyed my electrical system. The electrician would not repair the RV while parked in the ghetto so an emergency relocation was necessary. We called ahead, Jason Tubb answered the phone and was receptive to a late arrival.
Upon arrival, Jason was waiting and quickly escorted us to an available space and assisted with the setup. The park is beautiful and Rebecca, Jason’s wife and five children operate the business fulltime and were hospitable.
Jason approached me after a couple days extending an offer for a long-term visit through the winter months which was of interest as the selection of acceptable campgrounds in Greenville SC are limited. I was happy to accept even though the most expensive the entire area. It’s a peaceful, small, place with constant transient RV traffic. We were asked to sign and initial a long list of rules which all were acceptable and we abided within the guidelines at all times.
Some of the rules are: no one should hear you or your dogs at any time which seems to stress neighbors when their dogs naturally barked, you may only have two chairs and one small table outside your RV at any moment, clean up after your pet at all times, your RV space must be neat and clean at all times with excess hose and piping neatly coiled, no visitors.
After time, the employees, Jason, and Rebecca Tubb developed an unfavorable behavior towards us then few days later we received a notice of non-compliance citing puppy poop violations while I collected very peanut sized poop produced (Chihuahuas). I was also advised that every extended visitor was provided the same citation, however; no one was aware nor did I witness notices posted on RVs.
Over the Christmas holiday period we received another notice of non-compliance, personal hand delivered by Jason Tubb on December 23rd, 2015, in a sealed envelope, demanding that we pick up after our pets or we will be asked to leave, citing that employees have witnessed us willfully and neglectfully leaving puppy poop on the ground. Again, citing that all extended stay visitors were cited which was also fallacious as we were the only people served. It was demanded that we sign the letter and return by December 24, 2015, stating that we would be evicted if anyone suspected us of violating the puppy poop rule. You see, it’s perceived to be against the law to discriminate so citing a violation would prevent allegeable legal challenges if pursued. We departed on our own accord after the Christmas holidays to a more accepting campground.
Being judged for who we are on this special time of year made our Christmas an unforgettable, depressing, frustrating, experience. You see, my husband and I are a GAY couple, legally married, and have many wonderful years together and we feel as if the bible thumping, Christian family that Jason, his wife, and their five children profess to be in every breath, were actually offended by our presence, even beleaguered us.
After many years, I understand why people may dislike me and my family and would not want to offend anyone by our identities as we are a happy, quiet, clean, law & rule abiding, professional GAY couple happy to live our lives in peace.

Read moreI'm disappointed in the new ownership. We have been visiting every year around christmas for the last few years, but not sure we will anymore. The after hours check in was a little confusing as they left out blank check in sheets, apparently for walk ins. There was no signage explaining this so I assumed this was for us. The office quits for the day at 4pm(kinda early on a friday, which is a big check in day), but that's fine if there's a decent after hours process. However, it was pretty confusing. Was told my information would be left out, and when i arrived i saw two blank documents, which apparently was for walk ins, but that wasn't remotely clear. They were just sitting there, and I never saw the one that was apparently left for me somewhere else. Regardless, i picked one and hoped for the best. Everything was fine at that point, till the next morning, when the grounds keeper came and asked if I paid yet, which was a little confusing since it wasn't even 8 am yet and they weren't open. Then when i told him i paid half online he began to mildly berate me for being at the wrong site. I tried explaining to him what happened the night before and he seemed to have hearing or comprehension issues, cause he basically told me that my experience did not actually happen. That the sheet I picked up wasn't there and that my confusion wasn't confusing. I had no point but to up my anger level a few notches and let him know i wasn't going to take this nonsense from him. I asked if he is telling me that I need to uproot and move my whole set up 2 spots over(half the campground was empty) and he said you might, it depends on who's coming. I let him know i'd be just checking out at that point if they insist on that. Not sure what happened in the time after he left, but he came back acting very different and nice and friendly saying they got it fixed. The front desk person seemed very nice and friendly when I went to pay, but sorry to say, first impressions are hard to replace. Considering the previous owners weren't just unbelievably friendly, but the guy would escort you to your site and guide you inch by inch into your site. While the new guy berates you for being confused about their after hours check in when you had no help. Considering we live in asheville, staying here to go to greenville isn't really necessary, so i think in the future we'll just visit greenville for the day, and spend our...
Read moreMy star rating is irrelevant, as I didn't actually stay at the KOA. We had returned home from a road trip and opted to wait until then to dump our tanks. It is helpful to be able to use our onboard facilities on the last days drive. We planned and did stop at this KOA (just a few miles from home) to do our final dump.
We have traveled roughly 50k+ miles and stayed in hundreds of different parks in recent years. We have an accurate perspective on what to expect from parks at different price points. Using dump stations only and not staying in a park is a fairly common occurrence, particularly from those that camp on public lands often (as we do). Most of the time the fee is $5 or $10. We've seen only one or two parks in all of our travels that asked for $15.
I pulled into the KOA and spoke with an employee in a golf cart, whom directed me 3 different times on where to move my motorhome to be out of the way and came into the office just before I paid to tell me to pay later and dump now so I can make room for others. I was receiving his message that he would prefer I wasn't there. Feeling pressured, I didn't have the courage or apparently the time to ask what the dump fee was, if it was on the higher end I would suck it up. I should have asked. When I finished they asked for $20. The lady behind the counter saw my jaw hit the floor. At this point, it isn't about the money, it's about being insulted and gouged.
I've never seen another park charge as much for a dump station. To add insult, we had only a gallon or two of black tank to dump.
Being the closest park to our home, we have recommended it to friends passing through the area many times over the last decade or more. With a fair dump fee we would patronize the business over years of time. However, I'm afraid I can no...
