Ok, there are some things I want to address that others have complained about. First of all—it’s camping. It’s nature, it’s dirty, there are bugs, it’s not neat and clean and perfect. ||It’s true: you should bring your own drinking water. The water has a heavy iron smell but is fine for showering/dishes. ||The bathrooms are laid out efficiently, albeit weirdly. I’ve not seen a bathroom laid out in such a way but it works! There are two stalls in each bath house, and each stall has its own sink/electrical outlet/light/mirror instead of a communal sink area with those things. They were clean. One free, hot, clean shower stall.||It is QUIET here. You don’t get the noise of drunk people at midnight. No radios or TVs blaring. It’s WONDERFUL. ||There are some really cool sites at this place which require you to park your car and bring your stuff down a path to your site. These sites have wooden platforms for tenters and are nestled in the woods. Before you get weirded out about having to lug your stuff down a path—there’s a serious off road looking wagon you can borrow at the office to help you with this. ||There’s a giant rec hall for use whenever, with games, puzzles, movies/tv, pool table, etc. it’s cozy and fun, my kids loved it.||There’s a basketball court and little book shed as well.||There are some areas you can see piles of lumber or whatever but looks like there’s some construction going on. ||We stayed in rustic cabin 19. No electricity and no heat...and maybe a ghost? All I’m saying is, my flashlight turned itself on about 20 mins after I shut it off to go to bed, and the broom jumped off the hook on the wall three times. Friendly nonetheless, nothing negative. ||Overall, we really liked this place and will...
Read moreWe camped here for 3 nights in July 2017. I hesitate to write a negative review, but in this case I feel the reviews on TripAdvisor were not accurate and led us to pick a business we were not happy with. Quietside Campground was maintained just enough to not be terrible. When we arrived on a Sunday evening the bathrooms were in awful shape--very dirty, very little toilet paper left. The toilet paper in the women's side ran out on early Monday morning. I actually brought my own toilet paper rolls and left them there and people used mine. The bathroom wasn't cleaned until Tuesday late afternoon. The owner is hard to find and only available for a few hours each day. The other campers were mostly young couples and older couples. There were no families. I specifically asked for a campsite that was close to the bathroom. The owner told me our site was very close. We were a good 8-10 minute walk from the bathroom (which there are not enough of.) I felt misled. We expected to be able to get clean water from the campground and were shocked when yellow water came out into our water bottle. We had to buy water from the store and haul it in. The "trails" down to our campsite were overgrown and it was a lot of work to carry out stuff from our car to the tent platform (again, we weren't informed of the distance from the car park to the campsite.) We would not stay here again. This place could be much better if it was maintained better. Also, it's worth noting that it is a long drive into Bar Harbor and the area of Acadia National Park around Bar Harbor...
Read moreWe came to this campground with high hopes due to the great reviews. When we arrived to our hobbit hut it was filled with leaves and acorns, obviously not cleaned or checked at all from the previous person checking out to us checking in. We looked past this and swept it out ourselves. However, something that we could not look past is the condition of both bath houses. They were absolutely horrendous. After a day outside and hiking we looked forward to taking a shower but honestly felt dirtier after using the facilities. Shower curtain, walls, and ceiling were covered in mold. The floors were a muddy mess, and the smell in the bath houses was the worst part. We stayed here for four days and the condition of the bathrooms was the same on the last day as the first, so not sure when or if they ever clean their bathrooms. Also, bring your own water or be prepared not to have any while camping. Since there is no water spigot on the hobbit hut sites we walked to one of the two spigots to fill up our water bottles and the water was literally yellow and smelled awful. Definitely not suitable to drink. I am not one to write reviews but since they somehow have 4.8 stars I want to make sure people are aware before booking or prepared before arriving....
