Our plane from Oahu landed around 10pm, and we were due to fly out to Upolu in the morning. Needing an inexpensive place to stay, we chose the Pago Airport Inn. ||We were picked up promptly at the airport and brought to our room. Our room was on the lower level and had 2 queen sized beds. The room had a well functioning AC, a working television, closet, and bathroom. Simple, but everything we needed. The bathroom had a few bugs - as the window had foliage growing through it so it wouldn't shut all of the way- but it wasn't a deal breaker. Just made sure to keep the door shut at all times.||In the morning, we had some time to kill before catching our flight on Polynesian, so we did a bit of exploring. We started the morning with an excellent complimentary breakfast on the upper level. The dining area was clean and the food was delicious. There was also a nice pool- which we didn't have time to use. The grounds were immaculate with fruit trees throughout. The owner (I'm so sorry- his name escapes me!) had to do an errand at his church and asked if we'd like to go along? Sure! We got a nice tour of the island on the way and got to meet some nice local people. Afterwards we were taken to the airport in time to catch our flight to Upolu. ||Great price, Terrific staff, complimentary breakfast and airport transfers- and a super friendly resident cat. Highly...
Read moreWe arrived by cruise ship October 2019. We normally do not do ship.excursions because of the cost.||||From an excursion point of view, there are levels of touring from this port.||||Cruise ship company generally charge about $60 USD for a four hour which includes a village visit with an emphasis on local culture and usually with some native dancing lunch. The tours are well organised and suit some people.||||Within the security zone at the port there are licenced operators who can offer passengers tours and these are more focused tours for example to the national Park which is an acclaimed national park. Operators were offering tours for about $35 to $40 USD.||||Outside the port gates are the unofficial operators including the bus school drivers and taxis. We didn't enquire about taxis soni have no information on them.||||However the operators if these rustic little buses offer Island tours for $20 for 2 1/2 hours taking you to the main highlights including the 2009 sunami memorial to the $2 beach. These are far from luxury vehicle but they serve their purpose.||||The driver was very good, gave plenty of commentary and gave us plenty of time at the sights||||Generally passengers felt it was good value for money so we all have him a bit extra money||||||If you are just looking for an overview of theisland, these are...
Read moreIt’s been 17 years since I’ve been home and I wished it was a vacation trip. The room was ok, really good size, it’s dated but i guess it’s to be expected for the islands. Wished the pool was open as well as the restaurant but those got damaged from the recent hurricane. Cable didn’t work in the room and if I wanted to get on the WiFi I had to go outside of my room where the signal was much better lol. There was mosquitoes in my room, I had to light up a repellent. The staff were very nice, laid back and very friendly and that’s what made the stay ok. You will need a car to get around unless you want to walk miles in the heat to get to the store or to the main road. It’s not as convenient as I originally thought. If I had to go back to the islands, I would probably exhaust all my options before staying here again....
