There are very few choices where to stay on American Samoa, the two known hotels are Tradewinds and Sadie's by the Sea... after trying both, we would say Tradewinds is by far the better of the two.|| We stayed two nights at Tradewinds at the start of our trip and also again at the end. It's a large hotel, only a short and convenient 5 minute ride to the airport. The free shuttle was an amazing convenience throughout our stay. They are available at any time to drive or pick you up from the airport. || Both times that we were there, it was quite busy with guests, constant movement throughout the halls at all hours, but luckily the rooms are quite soundproof and we didn't hear any noise once inside. We booked a king room for our stay. The room was quite large, we had a living room area, and then a bedroom with a small balcony overlooking the pool. The rooms are a bit old, mostly inside the bathroom -- they could use a bit of updating, oh and extra towels too! Upon entry in our first room we noticed the toilet was unclean from the previous guests, toilet paper still in the bowl, brown splatter under the seat, and multiple hairs. It wasn't the most pleasant thing to find upon entry, but after calling down to the front desk, within minutes they had housekeeping at our door, re-cleaning the bathroom. During our second stay, the bathroom was spotless, so maybe (hopefully) that was just a fluke the first time. ||We ate our meals at the Equator Restaurant, which has a strange vibe. The restaurant is located off a hallway near the lobby, through a closed door. Inside, the 12 or so tables are closely placed, within a windowless room. I wish there would have been a choice to dine outside, there are plenty of tables out there, but that didn't seem to be an option. As for food, everything we ate was very delicious and fresh tasting -- with decent options. The included breakfast was a bit lacking. It was white bread, some fruit, and packaged muffins. If you want a hot order of eggs, etc. that was an extra fee. Oh just a note.... the Tradewinds is located about a 5 minute walk to a giant supermarket (KS Mart) down the street. We ended up walking down there to get some more drinks, snacks, and food options for lunch/breakfast. ||We also loved the option to do laundry at the hotel. They have I think, three washers and dryers to use. It cost $2 each in quarters per machine. The front desk also has detergent for $2.50 if you need some. Also, speaking of charges, when we first stayed at the hotel we were charged $5 a day for use of Wifi, when we returned the second time, we weren't charged, but still were given the Wifi code... so that was confusing and inconsistent.||Anyway, if you find yourself on American Samoa, this hotel may be a bit far from the beautiful scenery, but it's a better and cleaner option...
Read moreLike many others we visited American Samoa to visit the national park. We were happy at the Tradewinds Hotel. The staff was incredibly helpful and hardworking, our room was cleaned everyday. The pool is wonderful, it was so relaxing to take a dip at the end of the day.||The Samoans are so kind. They were always willing to give us a tips as to how to spend our day. We brought our pickle ball paddles with us and had a lot of fun playing in the evening at the DYWA in Tafuna.||Unfortunately the trail to the top of Mount' Alava was closed. We did most of the hikes suggested by the women who work in the park headquarters. We found many beautiful secluded beaches and were only expected to pay to access one (Fagatele Bay). The beach in Sa'ilele was especially beautiful and clean.||Flag Day is April 17, the day their Somoan ancesters first raised the American flag in this homeland. We were there the week before and everyone was busy sprucing up their village. It was fun the see the various ways they decorated with red, white and blue! We watched the the fautasi (long boats) train for the big race held around Flag Day.||Tips|1) It is important to rent a car. We drove to all the major roads on the island.|2) Stop at the park headquarters on your first day. Use your phone to take a picture of all the trails and National Naturals Landmark sights. We were constantly using the picture as a reference.|3) Eat at Tisa's Barefoot Bar and watch the Flying Fox bats flying around at the entrance.|4)Take the boat to Aunu'u Island ($5). There is not much to do there but we have never seen water so blue. Make sure you find out when the last boat goes back to the mainland. |5) We enjoyed delicious salads, wraps, soups and treats from Cafe Felila. We also enjoyed poi and Oka (raw fish in coconut milk), which we got at the market in Pago Pago. Breadfruit is delicious.|6) Snorkel where is is safe and enjoy the tide pools.||||*We never had any problems with the dogs although they do wander around the island. My husband did get stung by the large wasps, be as mindful as you can of them being on the trails. Have your raincoat handy, but we had great sunny days in...

First impressions were lovely. Entrance was nice, staff were very helpful. Reception area was decorated beautifully for Christmas. Very welcoming.
Wifi not included was a shock especially for the nightly rate.
A massage and Hairdresser onsite. We took a massage immediately after check-in and the massage was decent. The noise doesn't make for a relaxing environment either! Got a hair wash and straightening, had to redo the straightening myself.
Went to our room the hallways smells like piss. Dated furniture which seems to give off the piss smell. Hallways are creepy.
Ice machine on every level was awesome!!
Bedroom old and musty. Beds super uncomfortable way too soft and may have bed bugs. We got bit but could not see any bed bugs. Shower Water dribbles you sweat faster than their water flow. Bath Drain is clogged. Standing in your dirty water most the time.
Staff were always friendly and helpful. Reception should always wear uniform. The random sports clothing gave an unprofessional impression.
Food 3/10 Equator Restaurant. Continental breakfast was average and minimal options. Complimentary sweet buns was my favourite thing. Fish n chip was not fresh at all! Oka was not good at all. Taro chips were delicious. They dont know how to make hollandaise or an eggs Benedict or eggs in general. Disappointing!
Cafe & Gift shop onsite. This was a nice place. The coffee here was delicious and so were the cakes. The lovely Fijian lady has excellent hospitality skills.
Pool is nice big and deep. The pavilion is very underwhelming with the fordable tables and plastic party chairs. Pool showers / change room full of black mold.
Our stay was disappointing
Cleaning is now redundant, hotel needs to be renovated. Reinvest into the hotel and charge clients accordingly.
We had no choice but to stay here for our 3 day holiday as there is limited options. Which is why i believe there is no renovations. The owners must know they are one of the few hotels around.
We hope this place gets the love and attention it desperately needs and paying...
