Econo Lodge Eutaw I-20 — Hotel in Tuscaloosa

My family was visiting Eutaw,AL for a family reunion during Memorial Day weekend. We reserved 9 rooms. The initial check in went well. The front desk reception was very nice and answered all our questions. The issues began when the new front desk reception arrived we did not get her name, unfortunately. She was just plain rude and unprofessional. I assume she was upset with housekeeping because the guest were bothering her for towels so she sat at the front desk with her cellphone on speaker and complained to her friend the ENTIRE day. I personally heard her tell a co worker to " give them whatever they want so they can leaver alone". The following morning(Saturday), she told my niece that breakfast was over and started putting the food away. When my niece (16) told her it was not 9:00 she said again "breakfast is over".

Just when I thought her attitude was terrible. We arrived Saturday evening from cookout. My niece went inside before everyone else she came right back out and stated that when she spoke to the new front desk receptionist "how is your day", her response was, " I'm trying to do my job". As we enter as a group she provided no type of greeting to anyone. I went to my room and came back down shortly after and she was sitting there sleeping. When another family member came down and noticed her sleeping she woke her up and asked her "are you sleep ". She stated "yes, we are allowed to sleep talk on phone and drink if we want to." We we're just shocked by her response and my cousin I informed her that she never knew of a job that allowed you to do such things and asked her name, I believe she said Belle. The next morning this same front desk receptionist was handling breakfast. Her disrespect continued to the point where she refused to say excuse me but would just push her way in between guest as they were making breakfast. My aunt had to speak up and tell her "the word is excuse me". She continued her nasty behavior. She also used her Bluetooth headphones and complained on her phone about her co workers being lazy and nasty for not cleaning the breakfast area correctly.

The behavior of these 2 so called reception was uncalled for. My Eutaw family has a reunion every year and my Cleveland family are planning to attend regularly but not if this is how we will be treated. We have already discussed that if necessary we will stay in Tuscaloosa and drive back and forth than deal with the rudeness of the 2.

On a good note. The gentleman not sure if he was manager or owner, but he was very professional and always smiled when passing. He acknowledged you when entering and exiting. Unfortunately, his and the other staffs pleasantness was not enough to undo due damage of the other 2...

If I could give them negative stars I would. We are frequent travelers and This type of hotel is not our first choice, however, it was the closest to the family members we were visiting. Our room was infested with ladybugs from the bathroom to the ceiling to the window seal. Our toilet ran nonstop and we could hear everything the people next to us were doing. If they walked it sound like a loose board was moving in our room. We heard their every move everytime they made motion. We booked a non smoking room but you could still smell smoke. When asked to be placed in another room the hotel was no help. At check in no information about hotel or stay was given and they weren’t friendly at all. We saw on the wall breakfast was 6-9 (since we weren’t given any information about it) we went down at 8 and no breakfast was out. We went to the front desk to ask about it and was greeted with a yell from the back. When we asked about breakfast 5 mins late a lady came from the back where she was clearly sleeping at at the time. She put some bread and peanut butter out for us and said that was all they had. There was already 2 jugs one of milk that expired the next day and orange juice as well as a self dispenser of cereal. At checkout I asked for a receipt that showed I had a $0 balance and she said I couldn’t get one. When I continued to ask why she insisted it was because I paid through a third party. When I told her I worked at a hotel and knew she could print one for me she then finally printed it. When I asked her why she couldn’t do that the first time she looked down at my hand where my phone was and hit my hand with a towel and said stop it. Then she said she was calling the police when I asked why she said because I was recording her which I wasn’t so I said call the police so I can tell them you hit me with a towel then she told us to leave. I’ve never had poor service like this. For the same price you can drive 15 more mins to Tuscaloosa and get a nicer hotel for the same price. I called my 3rd party to get a partial refund and the...

We reserved a smoking room (big mistake) I thought it included a smoking porch or something. It smelled like a bar and they used urine to clean it. The room was under stocked considering it was 4 of staying in there. My wife smoked outside bcuz she doesn’t smoke near our kids. There was no free breakfast or vending machines. We had to walk to the gas station if we wanted anything to eat or drink. They used Covid as the excuse for no breakfast and if that’s the case you would think the rooms would be extra clean. NOPE I’ve been on construction sites with ports-potties that looked and smelled cleaner than the room we stayed in. I was charged $10 more than the ChoiceHotels site said it would cost. ChoiceHotels said the room would be $63.46 after tax I was charged $73.46 that’s also non refundable. During the hours that there’s “supposed to be breakfast” you couldn’t find a receptionist or manager and they wouldn’t answer the phone at the front desk. I guess it’s because they couldn’t look anyone in the eye after they screwed customers over. I remember now how roach motels got their name. Needless to say that I was completely livid and disgusted when we left. I will never stay at another EconoLodge again and I’ll probably never use the ChoiceHotels app again. If you’re going to stand behind someone like that, they should be held accountable. Luckily for us there was a gas station next door and we was able to get something to eat and drink there, but according to the advertisement, that’s money I shouldn’t have had to spend. I would have liked to have spent the last of our trip money for something more enjoyable and memorable. But this won’t be forgotten, the next time I stay at a hotel and it says anything about free food, I will be double checking before handing them my money.
