I had ridden my motorcle for over an hour in rain southbound on Hwy 395 late at night. I was cold, wet, the wind was blowing, I had no idea where I was, and feeling miserable in the 51 degree temperature. I had trouble seeing the road because of the water on my goggles. Lightning was flashing ahead of me, and behind of me. There was nowhere to go. I didn't want to stop and risk being struck by a lightning bolt. Finally, a sign mentioning "Lodging ahead" appeared. The next sign said, "Lodging one mile in Ukiah." An arrow pointed to the left. I thought I had arrived in Ukiah, California, and was prepared to pay whatever the hotel wanted just get out of the weather conditions. The town is very small, Obviously not Ukiah, California. It was about 10:30 p.m. but the lights were on in what appeared to be a closed business. I thought, "Oh God, I hope I can get a room." I parked the motorcycle out of the rain, and went inside to a dry and warm front room. It was heaven. ||||The sign said, "Push the button for service." I did, and a friendly (and pretty) young woman appeared. She informed me that the room would cost $35 for the night. Imagine that...only $35. The Antlers Inn is an old Hunting Lodge appearing to be from the 1940's. It's rustic, and homely, like going back in time. If writer Steven King appeared, it wouldn't have surprised me. The bed was old, but very comfortable. At the foot of my bed was a two bunk bed which I used to spread out my wet gear to dry out. This isn't the Comfort Inn or the Ritz Carlton, but I'd stay here again. It's a nice comfortable clean place, and with a lot of history. Of 14 rooms, only three were in use. The sleeping rooms are on the second floor. Two bathrooms are at the end of the hall. Each bathroom has a shower, a commode, a sink with a mirror. Reminds me of a European hotel. So...if it's late at night, and you're anyway near Ukiah, Oregon, take the one mile detour and stay at the Antlers Inn. It's an...
Read moreThis place could sure use some attention. I needed a place to stay so I could ride the dirt bike trails in the morning without first driving an hour from the nearest large town. There are about 10 rooms and only two bathrooms so if you go during hunting season, it might not be fun waiting to go... Is there enough hot water for all those people? I don't know but you might ask if having a shower is important to you. For me, there was only one other room occupied so no problem. Now for the condition of the place. The bed was as uncomfortable as any I have ever seen in a hotel. It leaned to one side and you could feel every spring. The vinyl flooring is split in several places and they used a metal strip to fix it. My room had a large hole in the wall like someone punched it. Not a single wall hanging so it had kind of a prison-cell feeling. And no table or floor lamp so if you want to read, you use the overhead room light. No curtain rod, just some kind of jagged metal sticking out so they took some lacy cloth and stuck it on there, tearing through the cloth and that worked. Downstairs there is a living room with tons of hunting trophies. Again, no lamps so reading is miserable. The bathrooms were acceptable although the flooring is split and fixed with nails. Happily, they give you several towels so one on the floor helped. Little things like a broken toilet seat were annoying. In the lobby, there is very bad coffee, a micro and a toaster, plus bottled water so that can be handy. The good: Actually, the place is reasonably clean. And the internet works. At 35 bucks, it's what you might expect. I know this place must run on a shoestring budget but really, a small amount of money would...
Read moreI wanted to love this place. I can’t. The walls are thin, the stairs are dirty, and my room smelled like hot garbage. There are common bathrooms shared by all guests. Sitting outside the bathroom closest to my room was a filthy mop soaking in dirty water. The shower curtain fell off and hit me in the head. The bathroom floor was wet in places that were clearly not from failing to close the shower curtain completely. The bed was exceedingly uncomfortable and almost certainly not clean - I tried not to look. As I was going to bed on a hot August night with the window open (no fan or air conditioning) the proprietress was sitting outside below my window smoking cigarettes and yelling at kids in the park...
