We had a nice time but it wasn't the Marriott vacation club experience we've grown to love.
The rooms were very nice but the beds were ridiculously high. I'm a healthy younger person so it wasn't an issue for me but my kids needed to be helped up or take a running start. My mom has knee issues and it was near impossible for her to get in the bed she spent many nights sleeping in a chair. My parents also found the mattress to be very uncomfortable in their room it felt like they were sleeping downhill.
In our room alot of things were run down the doors wouldnt shut properly on closets you had to really push them and our front door the screws were actually out on the part where the door locks so the door didn't always latch correctly but maintence did come fix it eventually.
The filter for the a/c unit cover fell off the wall a few times cause the latches didn't seem to be working.
I hated the location of the washer/dryer. When transferring things from the wash to the dryer I ended up dropping them down the side between the wall and machines and it was near impossible to retrieve.
Watch out for the door on the dishwasher. It goes all the way yo the ground and will smash your feet.
My biggest complaint was the activities staff. NOTHING was ever on time and many activities they just didnt bother doing. I went to try the Zumba classes they offered twice a week and 5 minutes before the start time the doors were locked to the wreck room. I knocked and could see the activities staff in there but was ignored. My kids were really excited for flamingo races and they never even bothered to hold those at the scheduled time despite a packed pool. When confronted about it they claimed to have gone around the pool asking if anyone wanted to do it and everyone said no. We are a party of 11 and not a single one of us saw this. The movie night in the pool started nearly 30 minutes late cause they forgot to hit play. There was a bracelet activity one day they didn't bother setting up till a bunch of people showed up at the exact start time and then had to wait till it was all setup and organized. The "bar" was open once out of the 7 days we were there. There was a rootbeer float day and they charged like $3- $4 for extremely tiny cups. The activities staff seemed more interested in hanging out in their air conditioned building socializing with each other than doing their job.
There was a really nice little bay beach nearby (2 hotels over a short walk) with a restaurant, boat rentals and a very reasonably priced shuttle to shell island that no one mentioned to us we actually discovered on our own. They do have a sign about the shuttle in the lobby but its hidden behind other displays. You get tickets at serenity spa hotel 2 doors over for the bay point lady shuttle to shell island.
The front desk staff is the reason I didn't give a lower star rating they were extremely helpful especially Lisa. They'd bend over backwards to try to make up for what the activities and event staff lacked and were very informative when...
Read moreWe booked at a killer rate, right before school started back. We were impressed with the price and with the staff before we arrived, as we called several times with questions and they were very patient with us - and easy to reach upon direct dial to the actual front desk!||You need to know the resort is unique in that it is in a gated residential community called Bay Point. You have to use a pass to enter and exit. It is very relaxing and quiet and secure. They do a good job of separating residents from tourists, likely for the residents' benefit. There's a gorgeous view of the bay, a beautiful golf course and a very relaxed vibe. Friendly to families though - no crotchety old retirees sneered at our kids playing, and families did a good job of respecting the child free folks trying to relax. Very good vibe. ||Room was as spacious and pretty and equipped as the photos show. Beds were comfy, along with the sofa beds - HOWEVER... the master King bed was mercilessly loud. This created some... issues. But it was very comfy. ||You should also know it's about 15-30 mins from various parts of Front Beach Rd. / PCB "proper". That worked perfectly fine for us but I could see it being a disappointment for someone not realizing the location. There's retail about 6-9 mins away. The Bay area is a whole area itself to discover- less commercial. ||None of these things were a big enough deal to cause us to drop from 5 stars, but in full disclosure because nowhere is perfect, Here's what we wish was different:||-squeaky master|-master temp was comfortable but always several degrees warmer than the rest of the unit. |-no plastic plates for taking food outside, only ceramic|-check-in was a little tedious as there was only 1 staff member checking in 3 of us who arrived at once around 7 pm and answering the phones. The guest in front of us was a real jerk about it. We were kind and patient about it but did share his frustration on the inside after a loooong drive to have to wait. |-pool area tiles were a little loose in spots - they are closing the pool to renovated from Sept- Jan so this will be addressed. ||We were THRILLED with this place - cant...
Read moreAmazing spot! Arrived after hours and was able to check in no problem. Extremely friendly and informative staff at check in.
The room was very spacious! My goodness so much space everywhere. Not cheapo appliances either and a nice washer and dryer included in the unit as well! Sofa sleeper was very comfy as well. Plenty of closets to store things too. Internet nice and fast! A screened in balcony with table and chairs included. Two bedrooms, two king beds and two sofa sleepers and two bathrooms one with a tub and one with a shower only.
Pool was perfect with a full array of nooks so you didn't feel like you were on top of anyone. Plenty of table, chairs and chaise lounges. It was never an issue to find a spot. Zero entry walk in or stairs for the pool. A nice sized whirlpool as well. Love how there was a volleyball net in the water and volleyball available. There is a bin too that has a few random pool toys and noodles available as well!
All around the pool was some activities, corn hole, a little putt putt practice area, some other lawn games and the playground with splash zone right there as well. A bar available poolside as well with reasonably priced craft beers/beers on top and a few alcoholic beverages and snacks etc.
Weekly activities were provided by a wonderful team and my whole family enjoyed it! Bingo, trivia, tie dye, s'mores night and ceramic painting to name a few! Plus we also enjoyed the meal and snack specials from unlimited topping take and bake pizza on Sunday to nacho night to chili dog night to afternoon cookout and pancake breakfast. All activities were very reasonable in price as well.
Location was perfect and in a nice quiet spot away from the main noise and action but not too far from it either. Definitely loved this resort and all the thoughtful details.
This resort also has bike rentals available too and had a few options for families like a smaller bike or...
