🎥 Part 249 - Starting day 11 of our road trip by having a little fun — pretending to “hide” Mila even though the Holiday Inn Express St. George North Zion is totally pet friendly 🐾 She’s been such a trooper this whole trip, and honestly, she deserves anything she wants at this point 😴

🎥 Part 246 - Quick room tour at the Holiday Inn Express St. George North Zion — it’s clean, comfy, and just what we need after a long day on the road. 🚙💨 We finally made it to Utah after 10 days on our road trip, and this spot is exactly what we needed to recharge (literally).

This covers a stay in late December 2024, and for reference, I am a very frequent guest at IHG properties. Right now, I’m also a very cranky and unhappy old dude staying awake and trying to write an objective and helpful review for other travelers. For context, I've seen the very best IHG Properties (Crown Plaza Prague), and the very worst (Atlanta I-85 Clairmont & College Park, MD). This Holiday Inn Express seems to be a new property in a developing area, run by a local franchisee under Xion LLC ownership. It is not convenient to St. George proper (8-9 miles further up I-15), so there are far better IHG options in town for slightly more. The Staybridge Suite on the south side of town is pretty good. If you are heading to parks further north, this might work, but I would give it some time so that they can staff and train a bit more. There may also be some workflow issues and mechanical quirks to shake out first. See below. I flew all day from the East coast to attend a funeral, with several delays and a two hour drive, so was looking for a good arrival. The check-in was quick and easy with the clerk on duty at 11pm, but when I returned to the desk at midnight, the new on duty manager was more than a little unhappy to answer my request, having been called in to work nursing a sinus infection (which she repeated to me three times). I get it. New properties (esp. franchises) can have a really rough time training and staffing properly. My request? I was simply asking to borrow USB phone charging cable that had been left at home. I was informed that it was _NOT_ available for "rent", but there were a few on sale at a much higher price than I was willing to pay for an overnight loaner. To be honest, this was a very bad experience. And tomorrow I attend a funeral, so my bad experience tonight compounds the misery. To top it off, there is a deep, low-frequency rumbling somewhere near my room on the top floor that has kept me awake, but I am absolutely not going to check and see if they have a white noise generator to purchase for the night. I didn't bring the $200 that would have cost. I did find some grubby ear plugs from Delta in my suitcase and those will need to work. On the bright side, The room at this place is clean and well furnished, with a functional iron/ironing board and a pretty nice shower/tub combo. Wifi is quick and easy to use. I'm an east coast resident but have stayed in IHG properties in at least 35 US States and eight different countries on four different continents, spanning 1997 - present. This hotel is objectively in the lowest third in terms of quality, but it will likely be a bit better when training and staffing are addressed. It is very inexpensive as are most of the local IHG properties. Next time I'll return to the Staybridge Suites or the HI Express near the convention center. Update: I did have a nice chat with Paula, the next morning. She is a brand new but responsive and professional manager, and she did leave me with more confidence about the property. I also appreciate Phoenix’s reply below as well. Note for Phoenix/Paula: the grab bar for the tub up on 34X is on the wrong side, and the step in / step out of the tub is really difficult (13-14 inches wide, 26-30 inches tall). Thank you both for your responses about my stay.

Stayed in rm.135, 2 bedroom. Looked like it was not cleaned. Complained to the front desk 4 times. I asked for a mop because the floors were filthy. I was told they do not use mops by Christine. I went and bought a mop, sheets, cleaners, couch cover blanket, sponge and soap (for dishes), hand soap, shampoo & conditioner, body wash, and several disinfectant sprays and wipes. So I basically cleaned our room. I showed pics of the dirty floors before & after I cleaned, but blonde girl and the front desk (Wed, around 9:30 pm) was not concerned. The first day, I brought food from the fridge to Kaitlyn at the front desk (it was not ours no one cleaned the fridge inside or outside) and she said Gabriella is new (housekeeping) and I said even new people know what to clean. She repeated 3xs Gabriella is new & 3xs I said that is not an excuse she should still clean the fridge.

Our microwave blew up and caught fire! I was warming water for 1 minute. Under the sink and inside cabinets were not cleaned. The bathtubs were gross and smelled of mold.

We only stayed here because we have in the past 10 yrs. (we once had an corp. acct) on and off, however, now it is run down by people now who do not care. We have not stayed @ this hotel for over 5 yrs.

We stated 4 nights! After I cleaned, it was better, but not one time were we asked if we would like are room cleaned.

Upon checkout, I showed Kaitlyn pics of the gross room. She kept saying “I am not going to argue w/you”. I was not arguing I simply showed her rm pics and asked what happened to this place it used to be nice. Her reply once again Gabriella is new and we stayed 4 nights. I said I cleaned the place. Not once did front desk ask if we would like our room cleaned during each complaint.

Worst customer service. Kaitlyn could not make eye contact and you could tell by her starting to turn red, she was the angry one. I guess I expected more professionalism from the main person running the front desk. She rudely said you don’t need to stay here! My last words were “ I get it” meaning you think I am just some “Karen” complaining and you...

First, the staff were very kind and welcoming when I arrived. The bathroom was dirty unfortunately. There was hair on the walls. The sink had hairs and lint and something brown in it. The toilet looked like it hadn’t been cleaned either. The walls of the shower and black smudges all over it. I called the front desk as soon as I got in the room to explain the state of the bathroom. The employee was so nice and said she would come clean it (I was going out for the evening). When I came back, it wasn’t cleaned. I didn’t want to worry about it from being so tired. Then I noticed my nightstand was sticky and had something spilled on it where I placed my phone. Actually there was more than one spot with the sticky spill. When I left the room for the conference that was held the next morning, I let the door fall shut. When I came back an hour later to get something I realized the door didn’t latch closed. I was a bit annoyed but realized that was on me for not making sure it was closed before walking away. As I left the room again, I closed it well and tried to push it open, it didn’t open. Came back again around lunch time and my door was open again. The bed had been made so I realized that housekeeping must have made the same mistake I did with the door. The Bathroom was also still not clean. It was frustrating because I left my computer and all my belongings in the room. My room was in a high traffic area on the 1st floor. Someone could have walked right in. On my second night I went to the front desk to let them know my concerns. They were very kind and understanding. The man said “yes that’s bothersome” about my complaints and said they have new locks… I thanked him and moved along. I don’t know what outcome I was hoping for but for sure less than satisfied with...
