We booked through Hotel Tonight over Labor Day weekend because other reasonable priced hotels were full, and this was cheap. My husband and I wanted to stay near St. Louis to go back into the city Sunday after a late night at Ameristar Casino and live 2 1/2 hours away. We arrived to Wentzville, and first noticed the two cop cars next door at the Budget Inn. We arrived at the Economy Inn (which has the same owners as the Knight's Inn on the other side). How do I know? The home made sign at the "office" to come next door to check in with arrows pointing to the Knight's Inn gave it away. Both properties are VERY run down, and appear to be very dirty from the outside alone. The concrete in the parking lot has cracks and ruts. The glass and windows are dirty, smudged and have moisture in them. The girl at the desk could hardly speak English and did not understand most of what we said. She made a comment about needing to check with Hotel Tonight to see if we'd paid. Of course we had paid, or we would not have been able to complete the reservation. Should she not have known that?|| We were given the key card to a King "non-smoking" room. The entry door to the building was on the side of the building. The door was open to the general public, no key card needed to enter. Though we had our doubts and misgivings already, I wanted to give the hotel a chance. There was some kind of terrible odors in the two halls leading to the room. The room was hot and humid, with an even worse stench of stale smoke, and I don't know what...but it was BAD. The window air conditioner was off. The room was very small, with holes in the walls where pictures and curtain rods had once been. There were also holes in the blanket, and the carpeting. There was a LONG BLACK HAIR on the STAINED pillowcase, with a yellowing flat pillow sticking out. The sheets also had grey/black stains on them. || Needless to say, there was no question. After seeing the conditions for ourselves, there was no way we were staying there. I do like a deal, but not at the expense of our health and safety. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND HEED MY WARNING!!! The place is DIRTY. SMELLY, and just plain NASTY! I should have taken pictures to post. I contacted Hotel Tonight, not to ask for my money back, but to let them know of this experience. Supposedly, they are very "selective" with the hotels they choose to offer to the public, per their website. Clearly, the staff of Hotel Tonight have not personally set foot on this property's premises. Self respecting human beings would...
Read moreMy first time here and was alittle let down by the absence of Andy! He was apparently unavailable to hang out with but I asked. The initial impression was that I just walked into an Indian restaurant. It smelt of curry with a slight hint of urine. The sliding locked glass divider on the desk was a nice touch, which gave me a good false sense of security! The eastern Indian lady working did her job. However I think the curry smell was coming from whatever was spilled on her shirt? The room was dated and what you should expect for $54 now days. The left over Mac and cheese that was stuck to the bed skirt I believe is the continental breakfast they speak of as we didn't see anything in the lobby in the form of food or coffee. The pool is filled about 95% with sand which normally is around such a nice body of water, but apparently things went south when setting it up. Also alittle let down by the shortage of seedy people promised in the area. Actually didn't see one at all. Same feeling when I pay for whale watching and don't see any! The broken chair or love seat laying behind the building was a nice touch but would have been better served in the lobby for people watching on the weekends I would assume. When we checked out the Indian lady which I would assume to be Andy's wife was apparently sleeping and I woke her by ringing the bell. She seemed irritated that I actually brought the keys back to this fine establishment and she had to not only get up in her same curry stained shirt but also had to remove the jewelry case lock off the Ft Knox approved sliding piece of glass! Over all it served the purpose as expected and would consider it again just in hopes of...
Read moreI had prepaid for a room (through Southwest) for Sat night last week. I am a traveling musician and had a show in Kansas City Saturday night and then needed to drive to perform at the Renaissance Faire in Wentzville the next day. I knew we would be arriving late and only get a few hours of sleep, but it was more palatable than staying in KC and driving a longer morning ride. We arrived late and rang the bell. The lady at the office was fine, though seemed irritated and told us she had tried to call us (the number she had was not mine - we believe it was the Southwest booking company or something) but ended up giving our prepaid King room up to someone before we arrived. All she had was a double room in the 'smoking' building. Now, I've stayed at this hotel before and it's far from a 5 star, but has always been a basic 'clean. I think they keep the smoking rooms for 'leftover' clients. Nonetheless, it was 2 in the morning and I needed sleep, so we accepted. Our room as busted up - holes in the walls, the toilet had not been flushed and the last occupants had left us a nice gift. The smoke alarm was hanging from the ceiling with no battery. The lock on the door had been busted off. The only real saving grace was we didn't see any bugs or anything.
The lady explained how the 'booking' sites work and that the hotel doesn't get paid for no shows, etc. While I can sort of understand that plight, that is a situation that needs to be resolved between booking companies and hotels - not held against customers.
I will not be staying...
