Many Glacier Hotel — Hotel in West Glacier

Great setting for my first week of June 2024 stay. The Swiss Chalet looking hotel is sure to impress any approaching. The rooms are spartan as in basic essentials. Bed was comfortable but no side night tables as the room is small. A small closet, old porcelain sink,& rustic looking wood desk to with chair. Then a small closet of an area houses the toilet & very small shower stall. There is an electric heater inside too. My room over locked the parking lot on hotel entrance side on 3rd floor. With no elevator to ascend, the stairs can be a challenge going up with luggage. At night I could hear the other guests walk the stairs & halls like you might hear a creaking boardwalk. But for my 2 nights it was quiet enough for a restful sleep. The reservation & grand entrance room is impressively equipped with a large wood burning fireplace that the Alpine attired bellmen regularly stokked with wood to the enjoyment of the gawking guests sitting around in nicely appointed cushy chairs & sofa. The hotel rearside here has ample seating for viewing the surrounding majestic mountains & Swift Current lake. The main dining room experience is a large Lodge like space with huge cathedral ceiling & area park themed paintings. My choice for breakfast was the traditional scrambled eggs with sausage links, potatoes & toast. The coffee was good. My first evening meal here was at first a very fatty prime rib that just looked so unhealthy I complained & the manager was dispatched to resolve it by offering another slice of meat. Overall that evening meal was more on the luke warm side with veggies. I also accepted a complimentary ice cream dessert offered to me as a good will gesture to make up for all the rest of my meal experience. On my arrival day I also sampled a salmon adorned arugula salad that qualifies as the smallest hunk of salmon I've ever received over the years for $16 add-on. The pub has interesting decor & the staff are attentive. I also was coaxed into trying the cherry pie with Huckleberry ice cream. That dessert was also the smallest ever scoop of ice cream & the pie itself came in a cast iron type little round dish about 21/2-3 in diameter that held a cherry jam like filling with some granola crumbles on top. When I questioned the size, waitress said they were still experimenting with portions. The lowest hotel level has a gift shop,& there is a huge outdoor balcony area off the main level for lakeside viewing. The location is perfect but my thoughts are you probably best served by staying elsewhere & just stopping by to soak up the hotel ambiance & so save some bucks & disappointment with meals etc. The previous 3 nights I had stayed at the Lake McDonald & that is everything the Many Glacier Hotel is not in room & comfort. Food was some what better too. Parking is free & I cut my stay here short after 2 nights with the weather turned to a very spitting rain & cold 36 degrees that I knew I wouldn't hike around in. I was able to drive Going To The Sun Road some 13-15 miles before it was still blocked due to on going snow removal. I embarked on the iconic Grinnell Glacier hike, where I witnessed stunning glaciers, shimmering lakes, and an array of wildlife. The guided boat tours on Swiftcurrent and Josephine Lakes are not to be missed and provide unique perspectives of the park's splendor.

Back at the hotel, the ambiance is cozy and inviting. The grand lobby with its massive fireplace evokes a sense of nostalgia, and I found myself unwinding in one of the plush chairs, relishing the stories shared by fellow travelers and park enthusiasts.

The dining experience at Many Glacier Hotel is as delightful as the surroundings. The lakeside Ptarmigan Dining Room offers a delectable array of dishes, and I particularly enjoyed savoring the locally-inspired cuisine while gazing out at the awe-inspiring scenery. Pro tip: Reservations are recommended, as this popular dining spot can get busy.

One of the highlights of my stay was the sunset cruise on Swiftcurrent Lake, where I reveled in the tranquility of the evening and marveled at the play of colors on the mountains and waters.

The most beautiful hotel in a national park! I really enjoyed my stay here for four nights and would return in a heartbeat! I did have to book Many Glacier Hotel 13 months in advance but after getting here you understand why. It’s situated in front of the beautiful Swiftcurrent Lake where you can see wildlife right outside your window! In fact, some of our favorite moments from our trip were just reading and relaxing on the porch. There are also a ton of awesome hikes right from the hotel where it’s super common to see grizzlies, black bears, moose, etc… You still really feel the historic charm of the hotel while having relatively modern amenities. The restaurant (Ptarmigan Dining Room) is pretty good but can get extremely crowded at peak dinner hours. Heidi’s cafe on the ground floor has some snacks, pastries, and a decent selection of coffee to jumpstart your morning. We didn’t eat at the Swiss Lounge but it has basically all the same food from the Ptarmigan Dining Room but in a more casual setting. There is also a gift shop on the ground floor.

We booked a twin/full bed room facing mountains and somehow got upgraded to a room facing the lake which was incredible!! The WiFi also worked surprisingly well for us which was great since there is absolutely zero service within the park. The room itself was relatively comfortable however you can hear basically every sound of neighbors and people walking by. I’m not even that light of a sleeper and I had trouble falling asleep after an exhausting day due to the noise. There are designated quiet hours from 10pm-6am but at the end of the day we could only fall asleep once everyone else stopped moving upstairs or outside our room. One morning we were woken up to house keeping literally coming into our room at 7:10am which was quite shocking to us but I guess most people start their day super early. The beauty of staying here in the summer is that we didn’t feel rushed to do a long hike at the crack of dawn since we didn’t have to drive anywhere after and the sun doesn’t set until 9:45pm. Also, the hotel is relatively close (~40 mins) to the east entrance of the Going-to-the-Sun Road (Saint Mary) so you don’t need a reservation as long as you start at the east entrance!

Overall, this is an incredible hotel in a gorgeous part of the park. The noise was a huge issue for my boyfriend but I personally think it’s worth it so I’d recommend staying here to anyone!!...
