We took the shuttle to Grinnell Glacier hike. Definitely the best hike I’ve done in my life, with insanely beautiful views all throughout the hike. The payoff at the end (we jumped into the Upper Grinnell Glacier lake) was absolutely worth the long climb.
For those who are worried about the long distance, consider getting a boat ferry from many glacier hotel, which cuts the hike to Grinnell glacier down to only 7miles round trip. If you can’t get a ticket online, just go there in person and get on the waitlist. We were the 6th group on the waitlist and still made it onto the boat with remaining space. The ticket person told us that they consistently are able to accommodate all the waitlist people who just walk up to the boat deck.

We learned a ton about the biology and history of the area from our friendly captains Bai and James. This boat tour books way in advance and is a bit of a drive, but so worth the trip. We saw bears on the drive back! There is a very short but slightly steep hike between the 2 lakes, but it was manageable for even the kids and older people in our party. On an unrelated note, be sure to visit the giant fireplace in the center of the ground-floor sitting area at the Many Glacier Hotel. It’s beautiful...
