Room: $146.02 Taxes: $17.08 Total cost for 1 Night: $163.10
For this price, I would expect a pretty decent room.
For reference, I travel very frequently for work and pleasure, and have stayed in many hotels. I rate fairly, based on value and circumstances, and have reviewed many other hotels in the past.
I was very very disappointed in this hotel. (1) To start, the price online and the price over the phone didn't match. They were about $20.00 different. This probably should have been a red flag, but I figured I know prices can change a bit on day of bookings and room availability. To clarify, that $20.00 is before room taxes both online and over the phone. (2) I had called a few minutes earlier to specifically ask if they had a hot tub, as it was a feature I was looking for after a long day. This is important, because I paid the higher price with this hotel over others in the area so that I could relax in the hot tub a the end of the day. I was informed yes there is a hot tub, and it is open until 10pm; wonderful. A few minutes after 9pm, I walk down to find the pool and hot tub location and am informed that they hot tub cannot be used tonight because it is not chlorinated. This was quite aggravating as I specifically paid more for this hotel so I could use the hot tub. (3) A smaller item, but the room's window handle had been removed so that it was not possible to open it, which was disappointing. (4) Some of the outlets did not work in the room. Only some of them arbitrarily worked. (5) The shower was average. (6) Higher on the concern list, I developed a rash on my knee from the bed overnight. For reference, I've never had this happen before at a hotel. I'm assuming its from the chemicals used to wash the sheets, but regardless of the cause, that is not acceptable from a hotel. I don't have any allergies, and this is the first time this has occurred for me (anywhere, with any sheets or detergent). Additionally, one other person in the room with me developed a similar rash overnight in a different body location. (7) We ordered room service, a total item breakdown: 1 lava cake about the size of half of a cupcake, 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream, and 2 slices of apple pie. While the ice cream was good, the apple pie was... ok. I we ate it, because we paid for it, but it was very sub-par. The lava cake was ok, but a bit hard - something a cake covered in liquid chocolate should not be. We had also ordered a cup of coffee which had been forgotten on the order but still charged - a phone call and that was removed from the bill, but it was still quite disappointing. The cost of these small, cheap items? $41.97. I understand room service is typically a little more expensive, so I was expecting a bill of about $25 - but certainly not almost $42. This price is a bit exorbitant.
All in all, I would expect this from a roach motel charging $50 a night, not from a Hilton property charging $146 a night. This was very, very disappointing. Because of this experience, I do not plans to purchase a hotel room from any Double Tree property for a considerable time, and plan to avoid Hilton properties where possible.
For a comparison, I stayed at a Marriott Courtyard the previous night, in a downtown area, for $123.00 a night, ($141.45 after tax). The room was very nice, with comfortable beds, a very nice shower with great water pressure and heat, excellent shampoos and soaps, a view, and everything worked properly (which should be...
Read moreA Disappointing Experience at DoubleTree Hilton Westborough. Where is my Apple Watch and my Hermes Twilly??
I stayed at the DoubleTree Hilton Westborough over the weekend for a family wedding, and unfortunately, my experience was far from what I expected from a reputable hotel chain. I am writing this review not just as a guest but as someone who understands the seriousness of theft and criminal law, and I believe it’s important to share my experience.
On the night of the wedding, I decided to carry a simple brown Christian Dior purse and, for security, placed my Louis Vuitton purse inside my luggage, which also contained my Apple Watch and a Chanel bracelet. Before leaving the hotel on Saturday afternoon, my partner specifically informed a housekeeping staff member, who was cleaning a room nearby, that we did not want our room cleaned. The staff member agreed.
After checking out early Sunday morning and returning home to Washington State, I realized my Apple Watch, Chanel bracelet, and Louis Vuitton purse were missing when I went to charge my watch. I immediately contacted the hotel, but since housekeeping had already left, I was told they would follow up on Monday.
By Tuesday, I was informed that my purse and bracelet were found, but my Apple Watch was still missing. I repeatedly asked to speak with a manager, but it took two days and multiple calls before I finally spoke with the Assistant Manager. He assured me that their door system showed no unauthorized entry into my room after I left, and that mailing my items back—though not their usual practice—was being done as a courtesy. However, his tone throughout the conversation made me feel as if I was at fault for my belongings disappearing from my luggage.
When I received my purse today, I was shocked to find that the Twilly scarf, which was an Hermes wrap around the handle, was missing, and a random item that didn’t belong to me was placed inside the bag. While my bangle was returned, my Apple Watch remains unaccounted for.
As a guest, this situation has left me feeling both disrespected and violated. The lack of responsibility and accountability shown by the hotel staff has been incredibly frustrating. It’s hard to imagine how you would feel if you stayed at a hotel, took reasonable steps to secure your valuables, and came home to find items missing—only to be met with dismissive responses.
I trusted this hotel with my stay, and unfortunately, that trust was broken. I am a Hilton Honor and this is the first time that this happened.I hope they take this matter seriously in the future to ensure no other guest...
Read moreThis review is regarding a function we had last weekend. We did have about 15 rooms booked but this review is mostly about their banquet services. The lack of a 5* review had more to do with two issues: the facility has not repaired its audio systems so there was no music, LCD event boards or microphones anywhere in the hotel so it was outsourced at an expense. The room card systems were down for a full day during our stay during which they had staff to escort you to the room. It was fixed the second day.
Onto the banquet: It was a Sunday at 12:30-4:30 in October during some pandemic staffing issues in MA. Management prior to and after were excellent! Detail oriented, friendly, communicative, professional and helpful! Michelle (the event manager) was amazingly helpful with the Celebration of Life we had with approximately 90 guests. From the block rooms, to the actual event, she had it all covered! She also was very amenable to food options as well as timing. Her availability for last minute requests and changes was exceptional. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Banquet rooms were updated, clean and spacious. Due to the country wide staffing issues, I was worried. The staff at the event were awesome! The banquet manager, the chefs, the waitstaff, the venue and supplies (+early set up the night before), the bartending and the communication along the way! Everything went perfectly for the event. The banquet manager checked in periodically on timing, temperature, food quantity/quality and offering any alterations to such. The audio company came through for us (at an additional expense) but could have been more independent in their preparation prior to and for set up. Be cautious of pricing on this if they do not fix the audio. You could probably outsource for less, without the hotel admin fee.
The staff at the hotel were very friendly! Bell persons, front desk, breakfast, maid servants and room escorts (due to keys not working). There could have been more escorts but they handled the technology challenge with a smile! I would definitely book another function there if they fixed the two issues that would have made this...
