My name is James Hurd. I am a Disabled Veteran of 10 years Army. VA Disability is tough to live on, so when I plan a weekend getaway for my wife and I, it is well thought out and meaningful. I picked your hotel with the assumption it was a lodge, not a MOTEL. The outdoors feel for a weekend in the woods near the gorgeous lake/ pond I saw. But upon arriving and “attempting” to walk around said POND, we got soaked feet, and a severely overgrown path that just lead us to a huge junk pile where they have been burning mattresses and storing old broken water heaters…. Ok then…. You obviously do not take care if this pond. So much for nature! Do you realize the effect of burning mattresses to the environment?!!!!!!!!!! There were also a multitude of smaller things. IE: looong black hairs in our tub and throughout our towels, NO COFFEE POT, and absolutely zero decor to make you feel comfort or at home. But we just let them go because we wanted a positive relaxing weekend… Until the next day…. I woke up (after only sleeping a few hours), in so much pain from trying to sleep on this terribly hard rock solid bed and pillows… I believe I have slept better in a wet foxhole… Pressure washing started on the back porches that morning too…. We had planned a nice relaxing day in the room, but there in NO WAY POSSIBLE we could have…. It was so loud and unnerving… So once again instead of complaining, we attempted to make the best of it by exploring that day and coming back to relax. Nope no relaxation when we got back because they were stilllllll pressure washing and we dealt with the noise until almost dark!!!!!! Then again, tossed and turned on a hard mattress all night. The following morning my wife and I had a lengthy discussion about or weekend. She wanted to leave on the spot. So we just decided to get showers to think things over. But upon going into the bathroom I was electrocuted by the light switch, and there was blue sparks behind the bulb up in the corner… FINAL STRAW!!! We immediately packed up our stuff and went to the office, where it seemed like they brushed us off and didn't want to remedy one thing! It wasn't until my anger got the best of me and I stormed out that some one finally said stay tonight for 50% off…. Seriously?!... After this whole weekend of hell here, you offer us 50% off our last night stay just so we won't leave…. And sit and repeatedly ask us what we want from you? I'm not going to answer that, I don't get paid to teach MOTELS (NOT EVEN A HOTEL) to make themselves look as if they are LODGE level accommodations. I really hope others have a better experience. This a great MOTEL to stay in 1 or 2 night's in between local excursions… Nothing more... Definitely NOT for a 3-4 day...
Read moreOur stay at The Lodge at Chalk Hill in November 2022 was our 2nd stay at this establishment. The first stay was in 1998, and I don’t remember any issues then, but that was over 20 years ago. Upon our arrival at night in the rain, we found that the driveway needs repaving and some light poles had lights hanging off of them. There were some potholes and rough areas. ||||The evening front desk lady was very friendly. She noted that there was no included breakfast, due to remodeling, and that they closed the office at 10:00 PM. She said that there was no way to contact them after 10:00 PM until 8:00 AM in the morning. There should be no issues.||||Upon attempting to enter the room, with a regular metal key, the front desk lady had to help us, as it was night and we could not see that there are 2 locks that need unlocked. We could see the deadbolt, but not the keyhole in the handle. After we got it in, we were good. That was around 9:30 PM.||||After 10:00 PM, we found the following problems:||1. Wifi signal was too weak for devices to connect. We could not use the Wifi.||2. The blanket on one of the full size beds was torn in different places. This was plain to see by a cleaning person, as the bed could not be made without seeing the torn areas.||3. The A/V unit was not regulating the temperature very well. Setting it to 72F was too hot, and setting it to 68F was too cold. We set it at 70, which was a bit cold, but bearable. The A/C was set in the wall to blow directly on the beds at head level. So I had to put an open umbrella in front of it, to divert the air upwards.||4. We also found that the mattresses were stiff and the pillows were flat.||||To alleviate these issues, and make the stay much better, I suggest the following:||1. Set up Wifi Mesh routers in each building, to extend the Wifi signal at an acceptable strength.||2. Check the beds and rooms, when cleaning them, to ensure no issues. ||3. Replace or repair the A/C unit, and put a diverter on the A/C to aim the air flow upwards.||4. Change the full size beds to queen size beds for more comfort for 2 people, with a fluffier mattress and pillows.||5. Tell customers that there are 2 locks on the doors that must be unlocked for entrance.||6. Repave the driveway and fix the outdoor lights.||7. Offer a discount at the café across the road until the breakfast is restored.||8. Leave a phone number for the on-call person at night.||||If these can be implemented by the owners of The Lodge at Chalk Hill, the stay would be so much better, and we would gladly recommend this establishment to...
