I have stayed in hotels, motels, airbnbs, rooms in houses, entire houses, treehouses and everything in between. I was fine with the check in process and not seeing anyone. The directions were very clear upon arrival. ||||I was not impressed with breakfast, but made alternative plans. Even continental breakfasts in fancy hotels can be subpar. I have never been a fan of continental breakfasts. Had I been traveling with young kids, they would have been thrilled with the donuts and pastries, cereal, juice and milk. They also offered hard boiled eggs, breakfast bars, and yogurt (and different selections of Keurig coffee). But again, I knew we were going to go somewhere for a good, diner breakfast. I was not staying there for the breakfast. All that being said, I think what they advertised and what they offered was sufficient.||||The rooms and house were very tastefully decorated, no complaints there.||||Being the oldest house or building in Williamson, I am assuming they have some sewer issues as I could smell it at night. I typically travel with a scented oil diffuser so that eliminated that small issue.||||My only major complaint was that I did not get the room that I had requested with 2 beds, which was very important to me and the sole reason I had selected this venue. ||||I reached out via email, upon arrival, to note that and just ask them if that was their practice, just to provide a room based on the number of guests and not necessarily based on the requested room. ||||They never responded during our stay. I am not sure if they thought I was going to push for a refund (I was not).||||Customer service is everything to me. I was disappointed to not get a 2 bed room, as requested and not to have any sort of follow up to my polite, yet curious email. I definitely gave them ample time to respond and prior to writing this review.||||As a result, I would definitely consider alternative places to stay in the future or reach out directly ahead of time and NOT trust rhe electric process to doubly ensure that I get the specific room with the correct...
Read moreWe stayed here on August 24, 2014. This was our second stay at the Hatfield McCoy House. We have also stayed at a couple of the hotels in neighboring towns but not anymore. We love to visit the area for its beauty and history. If you are looking for a 5 star B&B this isn’t it but what you will find is a great place that endears the look and feel of the area and the history. The owners are awesome and conversation with them will fuel your interest in the Hatfield McCoy Feud. Located in a quiet part of Williamson and outfitted with comfy beds you will sleep well here. The rooms are decorated with themes from some of the feud’s personalities. We plan to stay in a different room every visit. They all have a small private bath area with everything you need to clean up and get ready for whatever adventure brought you here. The rooms and halls are full of area history concentrating on the feud. We have spent a lot of time just reading and talking in the halls and stairway. There is a smoking area on a deck at the end of the hall upstairs. It’s a great spot to sit in the morning and watch the towns people go about their daily activities. There are toiletries available if you forgot anything along with snacks and drinks. Not sure if there are any costs involved as we travel prepared and have everything we need in the car. You can have a small breakfast downstairs in the common area in the morning free of charge. Be sure to wave and say Hello when you are out and about as the town’s people are very friendly as you would expect in small town West Virginia. Thanks to the owners for a unique and enjoyable experience. We will...
Read moreOn a recent road trip, we were visiting family in Virginia and couldn't pass up the opportunity to come visit the area and do the Hatfield-McCoy Geocaching Trail in Williamson. We were excited to see the B & B after looking at the pictures online. You have to see the attention to detail in person. Not only are the rooms clean, spacious and affordable and close to everything....the labor of love that it takes to create and maintain this atmosphere is obvious everywhere you look. From the moment we arrived, Wendy was attentive to our every need, where to go, places to grab a bite to eat, nothing was left to chance. We truly felt like family here. It was great to stop in the kitchen area in the morning and grab hot coffee, juice and a bite to eat before heading out on the trails. Nice to come home and have a lovely and clean place to freshen up and sit and have refreshments on the porch. Last night we were transfixed by a beautiful sunset and a quick rainshower......in the mountains...Beautiful. How lucky we travelers are to have someone as friendly as Wendy to share her beautiful home with us. Thank you, we cannot wait until spring and the chance to return and hit the hills again. Wendy....JOB WELL DONE!!! Very Geocaching Friendly...
