We stayed here for about 6 weeks in the summer of 2018.
THE GOOD
Sites and roadways are mostly gravel and mostly level. Electric service was extremely reliable throughout our stay. Park has wifi, but manager had mentioned that its reliability was not guaranteed. The wifi worked great for the first month, but became somewhat unreliable the last two weeks of our stay. Laundry facility has four washers and four dryers. The facility was generally clean and well-kept. This park has a number of long-term (or full-time residents). All of the residents seemed very nice and we felt quite safe and secure while staying in this park (the park is gated, has security cameras throughout and performs background checks on the long-term residents). They have a fairly new pool and the couple of times that we went for a swim, the pool was very clean and the area around the pool was well-kept. The on-site staff were friendly, professional and hard-working.
THE BAD
We are not βlake peopleβ so were stunned at the amount of gnats and other little flying creatures throughout the park. I did buy a bottle of insect spray and sprayed around our site several times. It did appear to help.
The septic system does indeed have issues after heavy rains (another reviewer mentioned this issue). There were a few days of extremely heavy rain while we were in the park. One of our neighbors came over on a Sunday afternoon to advise us that the park's septic was blocked and overflowing.
Overall, our stay was pleasant, but we could have done without the sewer/septic issues. Yuk!
We would stay in the park again, but would double-check weather forecasts and try to avoid a stay during...
Β Β Β Read moreOur family has used this facility for the past several years. It had the cabins and kitchen facilities to serve what we needed. For this reason, we often overlooked the issue with cleanliness and water stains in the cabins. We also overlooked the water stains in the kitchen facility that had been there for many years. This last summer, the windows on one side of the kitchen leaked and we had several items that were soaked. We didn't ask for compensation nor did the facility offer any compensation. This year, one of our family members who had been renting the same cabin for several years was told the could not return. They were told (3 months after they used the facility) that the cleaning people noticed "dog hair" when cleaning. Again, this was 3 months after he had checked out. When he told them they had not dog, they said "it say here there was dog hair, but we do have a new system, so that note could have been from several years ago". They still denied him from renting a cabin or accessing the resort. We decided as a family to go elsewhere. Now they are telling us that we will have a $25 cancelation fee for canceling our cabins we had reserved for June 2025. WE were never told there would be a cancelation few for a cancelation several months prior to reservation date. They are also not able to provide in writing or on email the notice of a cancelation fee. It is unfortunate this has happened and unfortunate that the supposed "new owners" were not willing to work with returning customers. We have booked a facility in Canton and looked forward to a better facility, customer service, and...
Β Β Β Read moreMy mother lived at Sunset Resort for a number of years. Most of her neighbors and friends have lived there for extended periods as well; some nearly a decade. Alot of these retirees choose to live in campers and tiny homes because it is an economically feasible way to live when you are on a set, limited income. To say the last few weeks have been stressful, physically exhausting, and disappointing for the residents is an understatement. New owners and managers took over the campground earlier this month. Everyone was expecting change, but the changes that occurred and how they were implemented was unprofessional and completely turned some of these folks lives upside down. I won't go into all of the details, but it was bad enough for at least 15 residents to pull out of the park and find new place to set-up their homes. Many others are still trying to find new establishments, but on their way out as well. This is just a word of caution for anyone looking to stay there. Other than higher rent there are many new rules and regulations - make sure you understand what you are signing up for before you choose to stay there. And think about how they treated their longtime residents before...
