FINAL UPDATE: I just had a very unprofessional non-customer service oriented email exchange and phone call with the owner Albert. In the end, he insisted that the cabin had been prepared to his standards and that that was what mattered. And that I had left before giving him an opportunity to correct it. He did admit that he should have called me immediately. He says that he went in person but that I was already gone, but he doesn't know what time he got there.
Only on a phone call, not in writing in the email, he did offer me 20% off my next stay but made sure to emphasize that I would not want to stay with him because we are obviously not a good fit because he cannot satisfy me. He didn't hear me, but please keep in mind that I was a satisfied customer for several years around 2017. For reference, this is the same owner for the last 20 years.
I myself do not understand why both my dog and I got sick (both on empty stomachs), but I do clearly understand the right way to treat a customer and I don't feel that Albert has done that in my particular case. He did manage to not refund any money though and lose a customer that he can never satisfy forever, so I guess he succeeded after all!
UPDATE: After almost a week with no response to my voicemail and web form, I am now seeking an apology and compensation for the inconvenience via email.
I am deeply disappointed to share my experience at cottage #10 Coral. We had been annual visitors prior to the pandemic and were excited to return for some much needed relaxation, but unfortunately, the property has clearly suffered from a lack of maintenance and care.
Our stay was cut short to a mere few hours due to an overwhelming and persistent unpleasant odor that permeated both the cottage and the hot tub. The smell inside the cottage was particularly egregious; despite opening the windows in an attempt to air it out, the stench lingered, even clinging to our dog's fur for a full day after. She's getting a bath now! This was not a subtle or pleasant scent; I strongly suspect the use of a carpet cleaner was simply masking a deeper, more unpleasant problem. The air quality was so poor that I developed a severe headache that lasted over 24 hours and experienced nausea. Sadly, our dog also vomited.
The hot tub was equally unacceptable. The water was cloudy, the surface felt gritty, and the overwhelming smell of mildew and mold was highly unpleasant. Despite being set at a supposed 104 degrees, the experience was far from relaxing. I required a lengthy shower at home that night to remove the residue from my skin after only a few minutes in the tub. The shower in the cottage didn't cut it.
I would not consider this property secluded or quiet. We were disturbed by the excessive noise from children playing a few houses away, exceeding the sound levels of our city apartment for several hours on a Sunday evening.
Despite contacting the property via phone, we received no response. While I am not necessarily seeking any compensation for this disastrous stay, I think that some sort of customer service response or contact is highly warranted. We will never return to this property and will not recommend it to others. The condition of cottage #10 Coral has significantly deteriorated, and a great deal of improvement is needed to restore the property to a habitable and...
Read moreMy wife and I recently stayed a few days and nights at CCC. Upon our arrival, we found a birthday card on the table from CCC wishing her a happy birthday and a candle, along with the passes for Blue Hole which we purchased through the site, when we booked our stay.
The cottage was clean (mostly) and the kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans and dishes. The cottage had a nice LED tv with cable and wi-fi internet.
The bed was a king size and was very comfortable to sleep on. The cottage had lots of natural light during the day and had a nice canopy of cedar trees covering it, along with some sort of wine grape intertwined in the cedar branches. Also, the cabin had two mini-split AC units and two large ceiling fans for cooling. With that being said, the mini-splits felt like they were struggling to keep things comfortable. I'm not sure if it's because they needed a recharge or were just struggling to keep up with the summer heat, but the cottage felt like it was at a constant temperature range of 76-78 degrees. Even my wife who can't sleep with fans, asked me to turn them on every night.
As nice as our stay was, it wasn't perfect. When we first got there, we had issues with the door lock. The issue happened after hours and no one answered the phone when I called the office. Luckily, we were able to find a work around and someone came out the next day to fix it. In my opinion, CCC should have an after hours number in case of emergencies. The other issue we had was that the cottage doesn't have any window curtains. While the windows do have blinds, they had gaps which allow someone to look in from the outside and also allowed the moonlight into the cabin. Two of the nights we were there, the cottage was so bright from the moonlight, we didn't need a night light. Having curtains will resolve those two issues.
While the cottage was very clean, it failed where most businesses of this type do, and that's the area under the bed. I dropped something and it rolled under the bed, so I grabbed my flashlight and was surprised to see not dust bunnies, but dust dinosaurs. It looked like it hadn't been cleaned in some time.
There are two access points to the creek, one near the main road and the other by cottage nine (if I remember correctly). The one near the main road is an narrow easement that leads straight to the water. However, there's no way to easily get into or out of the creek from what I saw. The other access point is bone dry, as of this review. The water is clear and looks really cool, but without a way to access it.
All in all, we loved our stay here and will definitely come back...
Read moreWe arrived at Cypress Cottages at 3:13 PM on Sunday, February 16th, for what was supposed to be a relaxing day; we left at 5:46 pm.
Upon entering the cabin, we noticed a strong, unpleasant odor, which we later deduced was from the carpet cleaner. This smell persisted throughout our stay, despite our efforts to air out the cabin by opening the windows. Two of the four windows lacked screens, and one of the remaining screens was torn, making it difficult to ventilate the space effectively.
We decided to try the hot tub, but upon removing the cover, we found the inside of the cover to be mildewed. When we started the jets, the water swirled with sediment and emitted an unpleasant smell. Although the water was warm, the overall condition of the hot tub was disappointing. After a few minutes, the smell became unbearable, and we decided to shower and take a walk instead.
The neighborhood was picturesque and quiet, which we appreciated. However, during our walk, our dog, River, a Retriever-Shepherd mix, ate a lot of grass and vomited once. Upon returning to the cabin, the smell was still present, and River seemed lethargic and unhappy indoors. My partner, Christa, began to feel increasingly unwell and panicked at the thought of spending another seventeen and a half hours in the cabin.
We called Cypress Cottages at 5:27 PM but only reached their voicemail. We left a message explaining that we were leaving due to the intolerable conditions. Our stay lasted only two and half hours before we decided to leave.
The following morning, River still smelled of the carpet cleaner, and we had to wipe her down with baby wipes. We considered giving her a bath but decided to wait for warmer weather.
Christa posted a review of our experience on Monday and submitted a web form Wednesday and emailed him Friday; Friday's email finally elicited a response from Albert. He assured her that the cabin and hot tub met their cleanliness standards and explained that the sediment in the hot tub was from organic cleaning products and would clear after running the jets for several minutes. He acknowledged that he should have returned our call sooner and offered us a 20% discount on a future stay, which we declined.
When Albert stated that there was nothing more he could do to make things right, we felt that the response was inadequate. After I posted my initial review, Albert emailed Christa to threaten legal action if I did not take the review down or edit it within 24 hours. I am happy to revise my review to ensure it is accurate and dispassionate, though my feelings about the experience may still come through:...
