Below is a combination of my likes and dislikes for this location. Likes: Interior of hotel was very nice. Staff was overwhelmingly courteous. Beds soft, more than enough pillows. Shower and bathroom nice. Dislikes: The outside of the hotel is wrong for all the wrong reasons. Its obviously a very old aesthetically displeasing building on the outside, and all of the exterior exit doors from the rooms were rather poorly concreted over. Just driving up to the building, I almost cancelled my stay. None of the exit doors from the hallways or buildings had any locks whatsoever. Most hotels require a keycard at all times at all but the main entrance, and are disabled after 11pm, but this location had unlocked "pull/push" doors, at least half a dozen, unlocked 24/7. Housekeeping, which I got the vibe was the owners family, was rather aggressive about room cleaning. I had to make eye contact as I hung my Do Not Disturb sign, as they were obviously waiting outside my door as I was leaving for the day (I was staying in the room another night). There was no interest in employees forcing their big ticket customers of the weekend (an entire baseball team) to follow any sort of rules. They ate pizza and burgers in the pool, they ran and played in the halls all night, and they destroyed the breakfast buffet and nook, which, as far as guest seating goes, was WAY too small for the...
Read moreThere was nothing really WRONG with this place. It was clean and offered all the advertised amenities. It was just old and tired. When I checked in for a two-night stay, I was informed that my nightly rate would be going up by $20 the second night due to the start of Bluegrass Festival. I was't surprised by the fact that the rate was changing due to increased demand. I travel a lot for business and know this is common. I was surprised by the amount, especially since the hotel didn't seem nearly full. The second night there were more people, but it still didn't seem FULL.
I wonder if they are in the process of re-branding from a Comfort Inn to a Quality Inn, which is usually lower quality, ironically. The CI sign out front is faded to the point of being nearly illegible. The paper map of the hotel layout had a QI logo on it. It would be a really nice Quality Inn.
So when I left Winfield, I went to Wichita, where I stayed in a Comfort Suites hotel. It was nicer and more comfortable. My room was much bigger - and the AC worked better. And it was $50 a night less expensive than the special...
Read moreI really liked this hotel and the people, over all, at the front desk were all really nice and helpful. However, I discovered after several days that I was constantly stuffed up and did not feel well while staying there. I asked the front desk clerk, Zeb, if they allowed dogs in the room we were staying (a suite on the second floor) as I had asked for a pet free room ( I am allergic to dogs). He said all rooms allowed dogs as it would be discrimination to turn someone down for a certain room that had a dog. He did allow us to leave a day early from our reservation but I would highly suggest to this Quality Inn that they come up with at least a couple rooms that do NOT allow pets in them. That way those of us that suffer from allergies to them can actually stay there. We liked this hotel better than any other in Winfield, but will not be staying there in the future, when we visit because of this. Also, there could be a few more items added to breakfast as this is one of the more expensive hotels in the area and breakfast is sadly lacking and also ends at...
