Rustic Charm! My husband and I recently visited the New England states for the first time. We had a fantastic time with stays in a variety of places. From a historic luxury hotel to a quaint bed and breakfast by the sea to the charming Wiscasset Woods Lodge in Maine. From photos we'd seen, we were surprised to find that the lodge was located right off of Highway 1. With it's woodsy surroundings, I didn't expect the lodge to have such a convenient location. This made it super easy to take regular day trips to surrounding areas that we wanted to visit during our stay. The new owners have recently upgraded many of the rooms, and we had the privilege to stay in one of the newly renovated suites. The suite was spacious and comfortable with a deck out front equipped with Adirondack chairs. Behind the buildings, there is a field where one can build a small fire and enjoy s'mores in the cool Maine evenings. We chose to spend our evenings in the main lodge playing games. I've stayed at many places all over the country, but I haven't ever been treated to a complimentary breakfast in a hotel that would put the breakfast of most bed-and-breakfast establishments to shame. Each morning, there is a new menu filled with delicious choices such as perfectly cooked bacon, assorted breakfast "casseroles," potato dishes, misc. pastries, juices, and excellent coffee. My husband and I rarely find coffee in a hotel that satisfies our coffee palette. In the afternoons, we were able to grab a coffee and pastry treats as we desired. We had a wonderful visit and would highly recommend the lodge to those travelers looking for a down-to-earth, comfortable stay with affordable rates and a super convenient coastal Maine location. Ask the proprietor about local attractions. We visited a few places that we never would've...

Bump and Trish helped me out of a major bind - in a really wacky twist of fate, my car keys fell out of my pocket and through the lobster pier into Sheepscot River. I spent 3 hours searching on the pier and in the mud and seafood below the pier at low tide but couldn't find them.
The next morning, Bump volunteered to drive me back to the pier and even helped look for my keys in the mud and seaweed below the pier. Lo and behold, in less than 10 minutes of searching, he was able to find my car keys with his amazingly keen eye sight developed over years of clamming and digging. I hear he is a 3rd generation clam digger ! Absolutely incredible, how important his help was. If it hadn't been for Bumps kind help and incredible skills in the water of Sheepscot River, I would have been up $h*ts Creek!! Instead I was lucky and blessed by his help, and was able to drive home safely. I can't thank him enough !!!
Oh yes- and also shoutout to the comfy room and great breakfast including homemade...
Read moreThis lodge and cabins property is clean, convenient and full of special touches. The only detractor is the close proximity to busy (noisy) route 1. The lodge itself is set back more and has a few cabins directly attached which would likely be quieter. Some of the wonderful touches: privacy - while the appearance from the front is that of a motel, walking out to the back deck shows the spaces between what are actually individual cabins; fire pits with free fire kits provided for the asking (s’mores kit also available for a charge); an easy serene trail through the woods behind the buildings; custom breakfast delivered to your room with hot and cold options; a scavenger hunt of nature items scattered over the property; corn hole games outside and board games available for borrowing; the binder in each room includes a fascinating history of the property and descriptions of lighthouses, forts and other places of interest within a 50 mile drive or so. It was just the two of us but WWL would also be a great place...
