If you're planning to stay at the Inn at Honey Run, there are some things you should know. We booked two nights there, in their Honey Comb rooms. We are a couple in their mid 60's in good health, hubby has back problems and has had several neck and back surgeries.||Nowhere do they tell you that if your room is in the second floor, that there is no elevator. They also do not tell you that you can't park near your room to off-load your luggage. You must park a short distance away, on a very hilly slanted spot, carry your own stuff to the building, then climb steps, to get to your door. None of this is mentioned on the web site, nor when you make reservations. You then need to move your car further away up a hill, and walk back to the rooms.||Wine is a big thing as well, when you check in, they give you two plastic glasses of red wine and a plastic container with 6 stale crackers, some chunk cheese, and some sort of tough meat for your room snack. When we said we didn't drink, there was the "you don't drink wine??" eye roll from the desk clerk, and two cans of soda were given. There is also a bottle of wine in the room, again, not mentioned. Why are guests not given a choice? Some bubbly non-alcoholic drink should be offered. Not everyone drinks alcohol. And that "snack" was embarrassing for this type of place.||We ordered room service for dinner, a 14 ounce rib eye to share and a couple of salads. These are delivered in a large paper bag, in plastic containers, with plastic utensils. A plastic knife and fork, to eat a steak. It didn't matter that it was impossible to cut the steak with the plastic knife, because the steak was inedible. Tough, barely cooked, after being ordered medium. It was cold, and just awful. We called the desk and they took it off the bill. The salads were good, though on the small side. There was some sort of flat bread that was almost raw, so we didn't eat it.||There is a smal individual coffee maker in the room, with very good coffee pods. We didn't get the biscotti in the room the first day, so we asked for some. We didn't care for it, it was very heavy with almonds with no sweetness, just almonds and bland. We had ordered breakfast for the next day, which was delivered right on time. The omelette was fine, nice and fluffy, and the waffles with fruit are very good. But again, without being mentioned, we got 2 Bloody Mary's. For breakfast. There was no mention of that, no offer of another juice. Just more alcohol.||The room is nice, rather small, but ok. Nice size tv mounted on a telescoping wall mount so you can see it from the bed or couch. The couch was comfortable. There is a gas fireplace that's nice also, if you're successful in getting it to turn on. The king size bed is HIGH, which could be an issue for some. The fitted sheet on the bed had zero elastic, so it didn't stay on the mattress. Waking up in the middle of the night with no sheet under you is not fun. ||The view is nice from the small patio, there's bird feeders so you can watch the birds. The curtains on the sliding door and nice and heavy and block the morning sun well. The patio has a couple of chairs and a table, so weather permitting a nice place to relax. The shower and bathroom are well done, clean and very new looking. ||We had high hopes for our stay here, after many years of hearing how nice it was, with great food etc. Unfortunately our experience didn't match expectations. Why was there so much plastic? For the prices, customers deserve real silverware and plates, and sheets that fit and...

Read moreExtremely nice experience! We stayed in the Cardinal Cabin and found it to be very comfortable. There are nice large windows everyplace you look so you have a fantastic view of the terrain, the sheep and tons of beautiful birds. The beds appear lumpy and questionable, but let me tell you, they are so comfortable that it's crazy! The living room area is nice and cozy, so you can enjoy the view, the fire place and the TV all at the same time. One problem in this area is that the only comfortable place to sit is the couch. The two chairs are not designed for comfort. Adding a foot stool to that space would help considerably! There is a fantastic covered porch off of the dining area that holds a nice patio set and a hot tub. The hot tub is not your typical tub. It's actually rather shallow, round and soft sided, with no seating inside. But none of that really mattered because the water was 104 degrees and the view was amazing!
Two things that I need to mention about the cabin; (1) be careful when you first walk inside, because that first area is raised and you must step down into the living room area. If you're not careful, you'll stumble. (2) at some point, you'll be sitting on the toilet and will reach for toilet paper... only to find that you can't seem to locate any. You'll start to panic for just a moment. Calm down and remember this review, because I'm about to share with you where you'll find that holy grail paper! Reach under the sink...yep, under the sink!!
The restaurant is fantastic but expensive. Because we stayed in one of the cabins, we were able to attend the complimentary reception from 4-6pm. At the reception we were allowed to select one glass of wine from a list of about six, as well as an appetizer type of dish from a list of about six as well. I chose the shrimp cocktail, which were two extra large with a delicious sauce. And my hubby chose mushrooms stuffed with Brie cheese. Both were awesome.
For dinner, the first course, we selected the calamari... which was plenty for both if us to share. The second course, we selected a bowl of the miso mushroom soup and the baby kale salad...we shared, and both agreed that they were equally delicious. Course three, we selected the handmade gnocchi and the six minute egg dish... again, both delicious. Course four, we selected the sea scallops and the rack of lamb... amazingly delicious!! We topped it off with a Tarragon coffee apeice and one dessert to take back to the cabin with us... honey panna Cotta...it was perfect! We received plenty of food, and were quite full when we headed out. Our entire meal cost us about $173...ouch... But, we were treating ourselves to a much deserved get away, so we payed it and moved on. The entire restaurant experience took about 2.5 hrs... crazy!
For breakfast, we added the "romance at daybreak" enhancement, which boasted "Ohio Maple Syrup" in the description...but what was actually delivered with our breakfast was something called "breakfast syrup"...yuck!! That cost them a star...
Before we left in the morning, we took one more dip in the hot tub and it was awesome! The sun was coming up behind the trees, and the birds were all around us and singing their hearts out!
Overall, the get away was pretty fantastic! And, we would like to go back again in the spring, as I'm sure the view is twice as nice at that time! But, the next time, we might consider bringing a Crock-Pot...
