PROS: Pool (and I assume hot tub) is open looks nice from the outside rooms are nice and homey very clean room to put everything away lots of places to plug stuff in The river in the back and a wide lawn is nice It's nice to have a back patio
CONS: mattress was really saggy & worn NO FRIDGE ceiling stains hornet nests in patio no breakfast bathroom area is really small AC didn't quite get the room cold enough to be comfortable to sleep, and had a hard time cooling off the back bathroom area - like it couldn't reach that far shower makes a shrill "tea kettle" noise towels are small and rough noisy - lots of traffic noise, guests walking by no elevator
I ended up at the Rodeway for a spur-of-the-moment stay on a Saturday night and felt like I paid a lot ($170) for not much. The rooms are nice enough but the back patio just has one measly plastic chair (and two hornet's nests.) And there was no fridge! I've stayed in all kinds of cheap hotels and they've all had a mini-fridge. I had food that went bad. The mattress seemed very old and saggy and the AC never got cold enough for me to sleep very well. There was lots of noise keeping me up too - traffic, revving motorbikes, police sirens, other guests being loud as they went to their rooms at midnight. I didn't sleep very well.
The shower was fine (few amenities - two things of soap and two things of shampoo - no conditioner or lotion) but mine made a shrill whine that got higher and higher in pitch, like a kettle on the stove, until it cut off, only to start again a minute or two later. I shaved my legs and washed my hair, which meant I got a two-siren shower. And the towels are pretty small and very rough. I abandoned the first one completely and a second one was marginally better. I don't think they rent out the room I had (222) very much - it's right by the stairs (no elevator) and there were plenty of gnats in the toilet and tub, indicating it hadn't been used in a while.
When I dropped off my keys in the morning, I noticed a big breakfast room that they apparently don't use anymore. It's like it used to be a nice place but they took a lot of the value away. I've definitely paid less and gotten more at other places. It's not terrible, it's just not great.
As for the location - it's far enough off the main area to not be able to walk to things, but you can drive to whatever you want. It's in a strip with 4-5...
Read moreOh, what a delightful adventure it was! We decided to grace a motel with our presence so we could fully immerse ourselves in the pow wow experience—because who wouldn't want to spend the night in absolute luxury, right? We catchy-booked a room a whole 40 minutes before our grand arrival, just to find out they had already graciously given our room away—what excellent customer service! But fear not, they kindly kept us waiting for about 15 whole minutes to assign us a new room, only to downgrade us from a lavish two-bedroom suite to a cozy single. No worries about the additional cash we spent—after all, who needs two beds? Upon entering, we were greeted by a charming display of dead roaches just lounging around—talk about ambiance. The room itself smelled like a mysterious concoction of last week's laundry and old smoky memories, with sheets that clearly hadn't seen soap in a while. The door handle was so loose it nearly gave out, making us feel safe and secure—so reassuring! On the balcony, rusted bars threatened to give way with a gentle touch, and a solitary cigarette cup sat elegantly in the middle, adding that extra touch of class. Our view revealed that all the balconies had chairs except ours—must have been an exclusive feature. The furniture was coated in a fine layer of dust and so floppy, it was practically part of the décor. As for breakfast—from the hotel's website promise, we anticipated a feast—but instead, we found a delightful selection of empty food bags and tortillas, as if breakfast was just a mirage. The staff’s attitude truly elevated the experience—effortlessly aloof, perfect for those craving a touch of indifference during check-in and check-out. All in all, an unforgettable stay—if you love adventures in third-world hotels. Would I recommend this place? Absolutely—if you're into that whole 'learning patience and...
Read moreMy family & I stayed at the Rodeway from 8/8-8/11. The price was reasonable. I had a 2 queen bed suite. The room was the perfect size & the cleanilness was great! The sitting area w/the couch & table & a square table w/2 chairs was nice & the balcony was a plus! I had a mountain/river view so that was nice. It would be nice to sit out & watch the river on an evening when it is about 70 degrees. There are some things I would change tho:
The water pressure in the shower. The water pressure in the shower was weak. I felt like I had to stand under the water for 20 mins just to wash all the shampoo out of my hair when it usually only takes me not even a minute to wash out at home.
EVERY room should have a mini fridge & microwave like all hotels have now. The fact the rooms we stayed in had neither was an inconvenience. We had to keep mini coolers in our rooms w/ice to keep our drinks & other items cold. With no microwave in the rooms, we had to use the one in the breakfast area to warm a couple snacks we had. So if mini fridges/microwaves were added to each room, that would be a HUGE plus.
The last thing I would change is a slight upgrade to the TVs. The size of the TV was good but the quality of the picture was not great. Its a bit fuzzy but still watchable.
Other than that, we had a great time here. The rooms were a good size, the service was great & the staff was very friendly & welcoming! Our stay at this hotel made our visit to the Smokies...
