We go camping all the time, once a month, and try to go to different locations for new experiences. We decided to check out Indiana Beach water park so we stayed at this KOA. We will definitely never come back here. When we first arrived we were excited because the place was very clean, or at least it appeared to be. It was a large campground and the grass was cut an the grounds appeared to be well kept. When I went to check in, some older lady was there and she was crabby; not welcoming not happy, no smiles. I get people have bad days but my husband's interaction with her the next day was the same. Very odd for a KOA. The camp store was okay, nothing exciting, lots of junk and not a whole lot of stuff that people can actually use. That's okay, Walmart was not too far from there.
The amenities that they say they have, they do not. The dog park is in terrible condition. The fence is messed up at the bottom in multiple locations. I have small dogs and they could easily get out. Luckily my dogs are well behaved. The gates are terrible and not secure at all. We had to actually tie it together with one of our dog leashes so that the gate didn't blow open and our dogs get loose. They have a little playground for the kids and a very decent size pool but the water was cloudy and there was a ton of crap floating in it. Some girl lost a huge chunk of her hair at the pool and it just sat there, grossing everyone out, despite plenty of staff (security, lifeguards, office staff) coming and going. Then they kick everyone out of the pool at 8pm on a Saturday night when it's still 90 something outside. Ridiculous. This campground actually shares amenities with the Indiana beach campground which is directly next door, and definitely has an interesting group of people staying there. The splash pad, game room, mini golf, and restaurant are all next door. Half the games don't even work. Because amenities are shared, people come from the other campground, flying around on their golf carts all hours of the day and night.
Then they have security driving around all the time. What a joke. The security girl was clearly on a power trip walking around like she owns the place. Yelling at kids in the pool who are playing and then when mom showed up, security tells her that she needs to teach her kids to watch their mouths. Yikes. We witnessed the kids, they were being kids, nothing terrible. Security is driving around on a golf cart all hours of the night with these obnoxious flashing yellow & white lights, surveilling the entire campground, which makes you feel like you yourself are under surveillance and obviously it's not safe here because something must have happened to warrant this security measure. They're literally driving around with a spotlight shining it into the buildings and the pool area and all over the campground to make sure there's nothing inappropriate going on. It was super weird and uncomfortable.
Then there are the bathrooms. It seemed okay at first, nothing special. The showers have a push button which only allows for 60 seconds of water, good luck getting the temperature that you want because it just gives you whatever it's got at the moment. You cannot control the temperature and you can't turn it off when you want to. There is nowhere to hang anything because there's no hooks to hang your scrubby or shelves to put your soap and shampoo on. There's one bench and you just have to have everything on that. Then the mirrors are like funhouse mirrors so trying to get a good glimpse of yourself is just a joke.
At some point on our last night one of the valves on the water supply for a campsite broke off. It wasn't even being used so we don't even know how it broke. It was blasting water at full force out across the campground, flooding some sites. We laughed as we saw security rush over to assess the situation because they finally had something to actually take care of. We were wrong. They rigged a hose onto the end of it to keep it from spraying all over and it only went across the road to the next row...
Read moreWent to this campground for the pool and splash pad...left early Monday and was willing to pay to check in early. arrived at 1pm and had lunch. posted hours for pool area were until 8pm. kids took a quick nap. went to pool at 4:45 to find out that the pool closes at 5pm. (all signs state otherwise.). also found out that the splash pad isn't even located on THIS campground, its the adjacent one. (both operated by Indiana beach) and only separated by a fence that is open. found splash pad....same hours as pool. glad we stayed at the KOA VS the other side. its a DUMP. Ponds for decoration are covered by slime and algae. tennis court in a disaster, no lights, no nets, concrete sinking, dangerous for kids.
The splash pad....great, except for the weeds growing through the concrete around the edges, and the poison ivy on the hillside. Splashpad is starting to show signs of disrepair. things don't work as they should and have been "rigged" to work or NOT work.
NO SHADE at either pool or splash pad. NONE.
Noise: after quiet house the park has loud music blaring until at least 2 am. called the after hours/security number. no answer. decided to walk up to office to see if a different number could be located. NONE. found employee riding around on a John Deere gator, drinking what appeared to be beer, (numerous cans in back). He didn't seem to care about the noise, and just kinda laughed about it. He made me and my daughter feel very uncomfortable the way he was looking at us.
Park was generally clean, and roomy at campsites, but will not return. This place is NOT up to the standards of every other KOA.
NO food onsite. the blue moose has food, but at the "other grounds" mostly a ice cream shop.
camp store and the lady inside was generally worthless. extremely overpriced. cannot charge to campsite/card on file.
BYOB. we don't drink... but if you do... BYOB
SMOKING...apparently the only place to smoke is at the entrance to the pool. kids kept complaining and lifeguard did NOTHING.
Looks as if the place is in a downward spiral. very limited maintenance, as things break they just let them go.
overheard staff talking about how cabins have BEDBUGS.
We didn't go to INDIANA BEACH, but did walk there....its a run down area, and the walk there is sketchy if you are female.
KOA demands that any golf cart on property have insurance and must be a licensed driver, have lights and horn. Not so much...many kids running around on carts with phones in their hands. no lights. can't comment on horn. Numerous carts after dark with no lights.
office staff was polite...
NO...
Read moreI booked this campground without reading reviews, and once I read them I had a internal panic attack because of all the negative reviews. I decided to keep the booking anyway and hope for the best! IM SO HAPPY I DID!!! All these negative reviews are people grasping at straws to be negative. Picky over stupid things. Most of which is not accurate. I’ll start with my only issue first —the rest is praise.
The only issue I took with the campground is one that is statewide and out of there control, which is a lack of lifeguards to have the amenities open at all times. At times they had the splash pad open and would announce that the splash pad would close so the pool could open. They share the lifeguard service with Indiana beach campground and Indiana beach, school is back in session so the lifeguards have been reduced in staff.
People were complaining that the splash pad and mini golf/arcade were not actually on KOA campgrounds, they are not and you do have to walk, while I do think there is misleading advertisement the walk is not bad and they share these amenities with the neighboring Indiana beach campground
People complained about noise late at night and lack of security- We never had a single issue, in fact my nephew asked why there was so much security around. Granted we did go during the week so I can’t attest to weekends.
People complained that the trolly service to Indiana beach didn’t advertise when the last trolley was. Guess what, why don’t you ask when the last train comes…
People complained that staff wasn’t friendly. EVERY SINGLE ONE of the staff members we encountered were beyond friendly and went above and beyond.
The bathrooms cleaned daily, showers while push button are warm and the water stays on quiet awhile. The splash pad was said to be run down, guess what my kids didn’t notice or care and even by my standards I thought it was fine.
Another review “the pool is green” it’s blue for any who are concerned, a little cloudy after a bunch of people were in it but never green! The arcade was so fun the kids had a blast a few games out of order but nothing out of extreme.
The mini golf -people were complaining the water under the mini golf bridges was swampy. Who cares your not swimming in it just playing mini golf...
