So I'm posting this kinda late considering I stayed here about 3 weeks back. Let me give a detailed account: PROS: The location is good, not great, considering the taxis are cheap in Tashkent, I was able to get everywhere for a reasonable amount. It's not like deserted or out of the city either, it's kind of in a residential area but a little on the inside, not on the main road. The staff speaks very good English. I was handled by 2 guys and a girl and not only did they speak the best English I came across in Uzbekistan during my very short trip, but they spoke quite politely and professionally. The hostel is clean in most places, i.e. the reception, bathrooms downstairs etc. The toilet had a jet spray! And the bathroom was large. This property is actually new. Mariyam at the reception is extremely sweet and professional.
CONS: They make you wear shoe covers as soon as you enter, I read another review while booking, complaining about that. I don't mind complying with hygiene rules but the problem was that they put me up on the 2nd floor which is an ignored floor, in the 3 days I stayed there my room was never cleaned and the bathroom got progressively dirtier. Garbage was overflowing and floor was dirty. Water pressure was extremely low and leaky on the second floor. The staff is very young, they are all in their early 20s so while they speak well and are friendly, they also tend to be casual and not good at handling exigencies. They don't have details of any tour operators or sightseeing companies which can be really helpful when you're new in a country. But please only book through a tour company and not through any local, no matter how well meaning they are as it'll be doubly expensive and not convenient. I'll just say that much. I had an extremely scary incident where someone was given a bunk bed in my room and it turned out that they had extremely serious mental issues. In the middle of the night she had a schizophrenic/manic episode where she was speaking to herself for hours, touching me and acting strange. I understand that the hostel can't control who books a stay with them but they need to have a more serious vetting process because you're leaving other travelers to their mercy. What if she had a worse episode and tried to kill me? I had to flee in early hours and the entire staff had to wake up to help me and deal with the situation. Which they were not good at because they are young and inexperienced. The housekeeping staff is very unfriendly. It's ok to not speak the language but they wouldn't even return smiles or when I'd say thank you. The short one gradually warmed up to me but the tall girl was mean for no reason. They actually complained about me to the reception guy saying that my towel had a leftover stain of makeup. I asked if it was eye make-up or something and she tattled again and said no it was foundation. I felt like it was quite petty and the guy kind of scolded me for it. But they didn't penalise me but I thought hotels and hostels washed linen in hot water and bleach towels so it was unpleasant.
I will say that I stayed there 3 nights and if the scary crazy incident hadn't happened I would have been mostly ok. It's not completely their fault but I was still at risk. Hostel, at least the 2nd floor can definitely be cleaner. It was a mixed...
Read moreI stayed 4 nights in a dorm here. The dorm room is nice but there is no privacy curtain. The bathroom was clean for 2 of the days the other 2 not so much. My biggest issue with this place and the reason for my low rating is the staff. It seems like the staff treat this as their home and it is not a friendly environment for guests. There is only a kitchen as an area for guests to sit. However despite it being fully functioning guests are not allowed to use it just the staff. This is not made clear at check in or on any signs (they informed after I had been to the shop to start cooking. They say they would make an allowance but I felt very uncomfortable after this. Then on a separate occasion they asked me to leave the kitchen as they had a dinner to go to the room. I feel this is a bit strange and rude to a guest especially as it was just one member of staff eating a pot noodle. Overall I did not have a pleasant experience here because of the vibe...
Read moreI stayed at Istanbul Hostel in Tashkent for one night in last week of April 2025 and had a good experience. I got a room with two single beds and a shared washroom. Both the room and bathroom were very clean and well maintained.
The front desk staff were helpful and professional. Doniyor and Nosir spoke good English, which made things easy for me as a tourist from India. I don’t know Uzbek or Russian, so this really helped. Doniyor even suggested a good breakfast place for English breakfast.
The location is also convenient – close to Tashkent South Railway Station and not too far from the airport.
Overall, it’s a good value-for-money place for solo travelers or anyone looking for a short and...
