We had a fabulous time at the Avani Quy Nhon Resort. We made this part of an entire experience where we travelled on the Vietage Train from Da Nang to Quy Nhon. The train experience was simply incredible and a fantastic way to see a little more of the Vietnam countryside in a short period of time. The service, the staff and the food not only met but exceeded expectations on our train journey. lf you are coming to this resort, you need to take this train. This is a truly bucket list experience. Five Plus Stars!
The train journey set a pretty high standard for our arrival the Resort as both businesses are connected, and our thought was that the food would be somewhat on par. We were pretty excited. However, the excitement was brought down several notches after our first dinner. This I would say would be the only disappointment in that the Avani restaurant (Tre), while a nice space with incredible staff, had a tough time on the food side of things and the meals were simply "ok". Food and drink is very important to us as it is part of our experience. So this was a minus and likely would have had this reviewed as a 4.
However, there are some very special things that balanced off our complete experience and legitimately allowed me to give Avani a solid 5. The first thing that I need to mention is that the restaurant at the Anatara Villas (Sea Fire Salt), and the chef (Tran Tuan Vinh) and the service staff provide a world class culinary experience that can compete with the Four Seasons resorts of the world. Admittedly, we were somewhat skeptical when we sat down as being the only customers in the restaurant. However, our server had Chef come to see us personally and he created and entire chef tasting for us based on our meet, greet and conversation. The meal was prepared with all ingredients that were fresh from the day. The extensive wine list completed our journey and we left the dinner with smiles and genuine satisfaction.
The second special mention is the spa. The space is breathtaking and instills an entire sense of calm and tranquility the moment you walk in the door. We had a 2.5 hour treatment that included a full body scrub, massage and facial. The staff were amazing and we left our treatment renewed and invigorated.
Finally, the most compelling reason to provide Avani a 5 star review are the staff. Every single member of the team is clearly on Team Avani. They are all on the same page with respect to customer service and satisfaction. We were treated with kindness and respect from the moment we arrived until the last day. From management to front desk, grounds staff and everyone in between, the machine was firing on all 8 cylinders. If there was a challenge or concern, they made it right. If we needed something we got it within minutes. We were always being checked on regularly and truly felt like a special guest. We chatted yesterday and today that hotel and restaurant staff from Canada and the US should come spend a few months working at resort here in Vietnam (and we had the same experiences in Thailand) and they can learn how if fact they need to work and run a hospitality business.
Great job Avani! If we return next year we will be staying again and look forward to seeing all of you. Joel...
Read moreWe moved from a hotel in Quy Nhon city to the Avani Quy Nhon and stayed four nights. We considered the adjoining sister property, the Anantara, but the rate at the Avani was simply too good.
The location is remote — about a 20-minute USD $12 taxi ride from Quy Nhon proper. But the setting is beautiful, sitting as it does on a small picturesque private beach, separated from a public beach on one end and a larger, beautiful stretch of white sand beach on the other, both easily accessible. A rustic, working fishing village sits off the public beach and straddles the small peninsula. It’s insightful to visit, but the tightly packed, open homes mean tourists need to be hyper-considerate of the local residents. Between the couple of tourist restaurants fronting the fishing village and the excellent food at the Avani and Anantara, there are plenty of options for a several-night stay.
The Avani itself is a bit of a contradiction. The management and standards are nearly five-star — the same team manages both the upper-tier Anantara and the family-focused Avani. The spacious rooms are exceptionally well maintained: walls, furniture, and soft goods are clean and undamaged and the cushions stain-free. But the physical structure is in serious need of capital investment. The lobby and common areas have a timeless architecture, but the interior design is dated and all the flooring well worn. The roof is covered with plastic sheets and sandbags against the rain, the outdoor pavers are a mess, the outdoor furniture is aging, and the children’s outdoor play area, though thoughtful, is low-budget. The hallways outside of the rooms are kept clean, but they’re in need of refurbishing, especially replacement of the painted concrete pathways. Who paints concrete walkways? We were told, though, that ownership is aware of the property’s needs and have plans to repair the roof, at least.
For ourselves, we won’t stay at this property again unless it’s seriously renovated. Instead, we’ll stay next door at the Anantara; it’s much newer and immaculate. But the difference in room rate means it’s not an option for many considering the Avani. That said, don’t be afraid of staying here a few days. You’ll get quality service, a fine in-room experience, good food, and a peaceful beach at...
Read moreStayed here for 6 days 5 nights through a package booked with Luxury Escapes. Overall, the experience has been really great (5th day here while writing this review 😂)
Airport transfer: Landed at Phu Cat airport and easily found the driver waiting for us. Had a breeze with this part. There’s wifi on the car for those without connection! It took about 1 hour and 20 minutes to reach
Check in: I was greeted with two staff and was given a free drink while checking in. Process was swift and was brought to our room fast.
Room: I stayed in the deluxe suite (it was either this or the junior suite) which was definitely sufficient for my stay. One great thing is that all the rooms have the sea view even while you are on the bed. My only complaint here is that there isn’t a bathtub or it would have been perfect.
Food: there is only one restauarant where I consumed most of my food. Had a free daily cocktail which could be consumed while eating here as well. There’s a lot of choices here, but the too thing i would recommend if you can is the Bun Cha.
Breakfast: there’s a mini spread of western and asian delights for both tastes. Definitely give the noodle a try as it is unique in this country!
Facilities: there’s a gym here which has basic equipments included. Pool was closed in AVANI during my visit, so we had access to Anatara Villa pool (which is the sister resort of AVANI). would say i am lucky as this opportunity only now as you usually can’t cross resort pools!
Service: Generally quite good as most staff can speak basic english here. However they don’t let the language barrier stop then from providing you a friendly service.
Privacy: This was one thing that shocked me because there’s very few people when I was staying. Don’t be shocked if you are the only guest eating during lunch or dinner as it can happen. There’s really a lot of privacy in this case and it’s great for couples and families.
Others: There’s many other facilities such as the spa and also the private beach you can go to. The spa felt only OK for me and wasn’t the best. The beach is only for AVANI residents so take the opportunity to sunbathe here!
Last words: This resort definitely exceeded my expectations overall. Would love to come back again if i have the chance...
