I stayed at May Kim’s during my trekking trip with Trekking Tour Sapa this month. The May Kim family belongs to the Red Dao ethnic group, and staying at their home offers the chance to experience their famous herbal bath, which is said to have healing effects on both body and mind. Upon arrival, I immediately noticed them processing herbs outside, with the air filled with the fragrance of plants.
It feels like May Kim’s place is a well-established homestay in the area. They have someone who speaks English, making it convenient for foreign travelers to visit independently. They also produce a variety of handmade essential oil products. Unfortunately, I didn’t bring enough cash and only managed to buy a bar of soap. After using it, I couldn’t help but regret not buying a hundred bars!
Although they have been hosting tourists for a long time, the homestay still retains a warm family atmosphere. In the evening, I had dinner with the May Kim family and warmed myself by the fire with the others. Neighbors also came by to chat, making the experience feel incredibly cosy and...
Read moreThe highlight of our trip to Vietnam! Really amazing, would definitely recommend for an authentic experience!||||We trekked with Ta who told us lots about the local culture and guided us at our own pace to the village, with a very nice view for lunch. When we arrived, the family welcomed us and showed us how to embroider our own woven bracelets. We also learnt to make spring rolls, and took a herbal bath with locally-picked herbs, which was welcome after the day's trek. Dinner was wonderful and we tried pumpkin leaves and bamboo worms, as well as other food grown on the farm and plenty of rice wine! We felt like members of the family and we played cards with them, played with Bonnie the dog, and they showed us objects from the tribe's history which was really fascinating. Just had a really great time with the family and really...
Read moreOur stay at May Kim Homestay was the highlight of our trip to Vietnam! Chan, who speaks perfect English, and her family gave us the most heartfelt, warm and hospitable welcome which lasted throughout our stay. The room was spacious and very clean, and had a balcony with a beautiful view of the mountains and valley. Breakfast was fantastic and we ate the most delicious meals with their family every evening. Chan also guided us on a beautiful hike to the nearby bamboo forest, explaining the Red Dao traditions and culture. They also offer Red Dao herbal baths with a wonderful mixture of herbs they produce and create themselves, as well as essential oils and soap. I can truly say that „we came as guests and left as family.“ I recommend this homestay 100% with all my...
