The rooms at Shakespeare are extremely and very functional as self catering units. Laundry and dishwashing (thankfully😊) are well taken care of. Staff are efficient and very welcoming. Room rates are comparatively reasonable and can be negotiated for (us) returning clients.
The location is very apt with a small mall just next door and a hospital about 500 meters away. Additionally, the new road to Chainda/Avondale makes the airport ride quite short. The road is also very good and safe for an early Saturday morning jog. I used it for an 11km run during my stay and the gentle slopes were very kind on my 51 year old heart.
The apartments are very quiet, so much quieter now than 2 years ago when the establishment used to host a Zumba class once a week near the pool. As such, it is very ideal for business travel as one can work or read in serenity. The additional facilities of a swimming pool and gym are excellent. There's even a small dining area next to these two for serving coffees, teas, smoothies and other refreshments although I never used it as I was ever in a hurry to get back to my room for a shower after gyming😄
Lusaka can be quite cold and hot even within 24 hours. As such, it is very handy to have fans, an aircon and a portable heater that come with the room.
The only reason I have not given 5 stars for this particular stay is that the shower cubicle kept flooding every 5 days or so. The maintenance staff would quickly fix it but it kept recurring showing that whatever it was they were doing wasn't permanent. There was also a bit of wetness on the bathroom floor after using the shower; maybe due to a bad seal under the shower door which, on a few days, was still noticeable after the room had been cleaned. And lastly , the gym could be improved for better hygiene, e.g. provision of wet towels for wiping the equipment after use.
I am a repeat guest and I have really enjoyed my latest 17 day stay and will most definitely...
Read moreAmerican Visitor. Service Excellence here. Everything has been layed out and well thought out for the needs of the guest. Everything you would want as a international visitor is there. They are CLEAN. You can feel the cleanliness in the apartment. You feel the safety. Its like a home away from home. Staff are trained and operate on a well planned system. Very good culture at Shakespeare. Cleaning people are assigned each day, laundry twice a week, secure entrance. They are all professional and productive. Swimming pool and gym. Restaurant, gas station, currency exchange, atm, strip mall 2 minute walk. Perfect location and superb services. My second visit I came almost midnight and they allowed me to stay without a prior reservation and extended the courtesy of allowing me to pay next day as I hadn't been able to do currency exchange and it was late and the office was closed. Stove, microwave, fridge, dinnerware, cookware, air conditioner, patio, parking, WIFI. beautiful scenery and great environment. You can tell the local staff (zambians) are happy and there is sense of high morale. This is not the case in most other local hotels. They have a variety of apartment options to meet varying needs of travelers. You can tell they care about the service experience of guest. I've stayed in many other local hotels and they are the best. I ALSO needed dependable WIFI to work remotely with data and reporting. Great Job Shakespeare. Starting a non profit and wanted to do mission work in Zambia. This was a great economical stay for me while I explored opportunities to...
Read moreNot able to write a review on booking.coM as I did not book through them so here is the first review on TripAdvisor. ||We stayed for 3 nights in the 2 bedroom apartment number 8. Family with two very young boys. ||Positives ||Staff are lovely and very helpful when needed. They offer free laundry service which is very helpful. Internet worked well for us and the location is also good. Can take a while though if travelling back from city center during peak time. Place also offers a swimming pool and gym but can’t comment on the cleanliness as we did not use them. Lusaka has a lot of power cuts but the generator was always on so we did not notice the power cuts. ||Negatives||We did not have one good night sleep there. The mattress was soo used that we were basically sleeping on the wooden part of the bed. The bed sheets had holes and stains and the place just felt and looked unclean. I found a lovely used hairy soap bar in the shower which made me think the bathroom was not cleaned since the last guest. The place was very dated. I did complain and ask for a different apartment as the one we got is not the one I actually wanted but they were fully booked. Hot water ran out quickly and bathrooms also very outdated with things broken. Towels also very well used. |The apartment is also small with big furniture and with two kids and two adults it felt that it was made for one or two people maximum. ||We did not feel relaxed or rested at our stay at Shakespeare court apartments in Lusaka. I would not recommend apartment 8 if you...
