I love this beautiful walk along the Hobart Rivulet and do it several times every time I visit Hobart ( 3-4 times a year) It’s sublime - peaceful, green, varied and nuanced with a large variety of native and European species of trees. I’ve been lucky enough to see the local platypus on several occasions. The views at the top of the walk of Kunanyi ( Mt Wellington) are stunning and different every day and it’s a relaxing way to walk to the city. Plenty of places to pause and contemplate nature along the way. No public toilet facilities anywhere is probably the only downfall. A side trip from anywhere along the track will lead you to Macquarie street and a cafe and coffee.

‘Come for the platypus, stay for the beer’. Our visit to see the platypus family proved fruitless, but we enjoyed a pretty riverside walk, topped off with a decent meal and beer at Cascade, Tassie’s oldest brewery!

A lovely break from the hustle and bustle of the city. The Rivulet is home to trout and platypus as well as a plethora of birds, wallaby’s and bandicoots. The walking track is popular and extends up to the Cascades Brewery. well worth a...
