Our day in Hobart was filled with memorable experiences, one of which was the visit to the Cascade Female Factory, a captivating glimpse into early Australian history. The following tour of the Cascade Brewery proved to be equally fascinating, with our knowledgeable guide enhancing the experience with intriguing insights.

The Sunday jazz session on the lawn added a delightful touch to the atmosphere, creating a relaxing backdrop for the paddle samples that accompanied the tour. We indulged in a delicious lunch amidst this picturesque setting, soaking in the charm of the historic brewery and its beautiful gardens.

As we strolled back along the Hobart Rivulet trail, we were treated to a rare sighting of a platypus in the wild, a truly magical moment that added to the day's adventure. The brewery tour itself was exceptional, offering a deep dive into the brewery's rich history and the captivating stories of Hobart.

The friendly and knowledgeable staff made the experience all the more enjoyable, sharing their passion for the brewery and the surrounding area. The tasting paddle at the end was a delightful treat, allowing us to sample and savor the brews in the serene gardens that welcomed both locals and wildlife alike.

The vibrant atmosphere, good food, and attentive service made our time at the Cascade Brewery truly special. Despite one small hiccup with the pork belly dish, the overall experience was exceptional. The opportunity to relax outside, enjoy drinks and food on the lush grass while listening to the soothing tunes of the DJ, made for a perfect ending to a beautiful day in this enchanting setting.

For a captivating journey through both history and flavors, I wholeheartedly recommend the Cascade Brewery tour. It's a unique blend of culture, nature, and hospitality that leaves a lasting impression. A must-visit spot in Hobart that promises a memorable experience...

Take the brewery tour, well worth it. The dark lager has only about 12% of the dark roasted malt but it is really dark compared to the lighter beers. I liked the lighter Pale Ale which is the bestseller on the island. The tour comes with a paddle with 4 beers worth AUD 22.

Cascade Brewery has a long history though most of what you see is post-1967 after the fire which destroyed 75% of the brewery though they got it up an running within 3 months. The beer/lager made here are only meant for sale in Tassie. Carlton (part of Anheuser) acquired Cascade in 1993 and since then, Cascade is made on the mainland but with Tassie barley and hops though the mountain river water is unique only to Tassie-made Cascade. However the brewery will only run for one third of the year to meet the Tasmania demand, therefore since Carlton's takeover, this brewery has the license to produce other Carlton beers for the Tasmanian market with the grains sent over from mainland Australia. We saw the process vessels which where quite crowded with it being an old plant. I could see several safety issues at a glance although there were some good practices. Up until the Carlton acquisition, operators were allowed to drink a generous amount of beer on the job during breaks at a makeshift bar under the staircase. They use industrial filters to clarify the beer so no fish bladder - thus should be vegan. There are tall concrete silos across the road from where the restaurant is, which in its heyday each stored 8 tonnes of grains but haven't been in used for decades because there are better tanks at other facilities; they aren't demolished due to the cost. The restaurant is lovely with several vegan choices and you may choose to be seated outside. An...

The Cascade Brewery in South Hobart is an absolute must-visit for anyone with an appreciation for history, craftsmanship, and exceptional beer. Nestled at the foot of Mount Wellington, the brewery is a stunning heritage site that seamlessly blends old-world charm with modern hospitality.

The onsite tour is a fascinating journey through time, showcasing Cascade’s proud legacy as Australia’s oldest operating brewery, founded in 1824. Knowledgeable and enthusiastic guides lead you through the brewery’s history, beer-making process, and the intricate craftsmanship behind each brew. The tour also includes a behind-the-scenes look at the brewing operations, making it an enriching experience for novices and beer aficionados alike.

The restaurant and bar elevate the visit to a new level. The menu is thoughtfully curated, featuring locally sourced ingredients that highlight the best of Tasmanian cuisine. Whether it’s a perfectly cooked steak, a fresh seafood platter, or a hearty pie, every dish pairs wonderfully with Cascade’s range of beers and ciders. The tasting paddles, in particular, offer an excellent way to sample their diverse offerings, from crisp lagers to rich stouts.

Adding to the experience is the picturesque garden surrounding the brewery, a perfect spot to relax with a pint while soaking in the serene beauty of South Hobart.

In summary, the Cascade Brewery offers an unparalleled experience that combines history, craftsmanship, and culinary excellence. It’s not just a visit—it’s a celebration of Tasmania’s rich culture and brewing heritage. Highly recommended for locals and...
