Wellington Dam, located in the picturesque Wellington National Park in Western Australia, offers a truly remarkable experience. Visiting on a Saturday, we were greeted by a vibrant yet serene atmosphere, perfect for families, nature enthusiasts, and adventurers alike.
The highlight of the visit was undoubtedly the stunning mega mural painted on the dam wall, a breathtaking work of art blending seamlessly with the natural surroundings. There are several vantage points to admire the mural, each providing a fresh view and photo opportunity.

Read moreThe Wellington Dam giant mural near Collie Western Australia was painted by Guido Van Helten @guidovanhelten and completed in February 2021. Guido titled it âReflectionsâ.
The dam itself is 34m-high, 367m-wide and was finished construction in 1960 and forms the second largest dam in Western Australia, after Lake Argyle.
When Guido was asked to paint a moke-up of what he intended on painting, he refused. He was quoted as saying âWithout talking to the community, seeing the site and getting a feel for place, I canât give you a concept design. Itâs not about me just coming in and painting somethingâ. After he was chosen he came to the area and spent over three weeks talking to the local community and even spent time in local aboriginal communities to get a feel for the area and gain inspiration for the mural. After this he spent time going through countless photographs trying to decide which ones would be used for the 8000 metre square mural. Safe to say, the ones he chose were all well deserved to showcase the reflections of the Collie river and what it means to the...
Read moreToday I took my dear friends to see the Dam and its wonderful murial. Yesterday and this morning I checked the website to see if it's all good to go as my dear friends are elderly, one of them having had a stroke last year. They were so excited, we travelled the 2 1/2 hours from Perth only to find that the only place you could see the murials from was the look out in which the steps were to hard to walk down for them, meaning they didn't get to see the magnificent Dam. I had told them the previous times I had visited I was able to drive and park over the bridge so it was okay for them to walk on the bridge to see the murials. I think the website should have stated that construction was going on and all except the look out was not available to drive too. Absolutely magnificent place but you need to inform people who are driving from afar what is going on then we could have come when the walkway has finished...VERY DISAPOINTED, YOUR WEBSITE WAS NOT UPDATED ON THE CONSTRUCTION THAT IS...
