The Gerlospass is an absolute masterpiece of scenic beauty. Every single turn reveals another breathtaking vista of the Austrian Alps. We drove through in early autumn, and the contrast of the green valleys, rugged grey peaks, and the first dusting of snow was simply unforgettable.

There are numerous pull-off areas where you can safely stop, get out of the car, and just soak it all in. The air is incredibly fresh, and the silence is only broken by the sound of cowbells echoing from the meadows. It's a truly immersive alpine experience.

Whether you're a avid photographer, a nature lover, or just someone passing through, this drive is worth every minute. Take your time, go slowly, and enjoy the journey. The well-maintained road makes it accessible for most vehicles.

A word of advice: check the weather and road conditions before you go, as it can change quickly in the mountains. But if you get a clear day, you are in for an absolute treat.

Gerlospass: Tor zu den Hohen Tauern

Der Gerlospass (1.531 m) verbindet das Zillertal (Tirol) mit dem Pinzgau (Salzburg) und ist einer der höchsten, ganzjährig befahrbaren Alpenpässe Österreichs. Eingebettet in die Hohe Tauern, bietet er atemberaubende Bergpanoramen und ist ein beliebter Ausgangspunkt

Natur & Landschaft: Der Pass liegt im Nationalpark Hohe Tauern und bietet spektakuläre Ausblicke auf Gipfel wie den Großvenediger (3.666 m). Die Gerlos Almen und der Zillertaler Höhenweg sind beliebte Wanderziele. Wandern & Bergsteigen: Zahlreiche Routen führen zu Almhütten, Wasserfällen (z. B. Krimmler Wasserfälle) und Gipfeln. Im Winter ist der Pass Ausgangspunkt für Skitouren und Schneeschuhwanderungen. Radfahren & Motorrad: Die Passstraße ist bei Motorradfahrern und Rennradlern beliebt. Die Gerlos Alpenstraße führt über 25 Kehren hinauf zum Pass. Wintersport: In der Nähe liegen die Skigebiete Zillertal Arena und Wildkogel-Arena, die mit Pisten für alle Schwierigkeitsgrade locken. Anreise: Von Innsbruck über das Zillertal (ca. 1,5 Std.) oder von Salzburg über den Pinzgau (ca. 2 Std.). Maut: Die Gerlos Alpenstraße ist mautpflichtig (Stand 2025). Beste Reisezeit: Juni bis September für Wandern und Radfahren; Dezember bis März für Wintersport. Besonderheit: Der Pass ist ein wichtiger Übergang für den Tauernradweg und den Alpenverein-Weitwanderweg 02.

Altra Bellissima strada alpina austriaca, tutto sommato non molto distante dal confine italiano ( dal Brennero sarà circa un'ora di strada..), che fa' parte del circuito (tutto a pedaggio..) delle 4 Strade Panoramiche, e cioè, oltre a questa ( Gerlos Alpenstrasse, poi la Celeberrima Grossglockner Alpensrtasse, e le meno conosciute Nockalmstrasse ( Meravigliosa!!!!!) e Villacher Alpenstrasse ( ancora mi manca..) )...arrivando dal Brennero o da Landeck, si prosegue in autostrada direzione Monaco/Salisburgo fino all'altezza di Wiesing, dove si esce prendendo la 169, dalla quale, seguendo un'ampia e piacevole vallata, si arriva a Zell am Zilier, dove di prende a sinistra verso la 165, che è la strada di Gerlos, e dove comincia il vero Divertimento ( da motociclista...); carreggiata sempre perfetta, disegnata magnificamente in un paesaggio alpino incantevole, si passa il Lago di Speicher DurlaBoden per arrivare al Gerloss Pass Höhe, a 1531 m d'altezza e dove si trovano i caselli di pedaggio...poi, discesa tutta dolci curve fino al punto più Panoramico, alle Bellissime e Potenti ( all'orecchio ) KrimmlWaterFalls, le cascate di Krimml, in un ambiente davvero molto molto bello, e tenuto Meravigliosamente....poi si può proseguire fino alla famosa e bella cittadina di Kitzbuhel ( chi non conosce la adrenalinica discesa della Streiff??? )...PAESAGGI DA...
