The family Bachinger was THE place to go when you were looking for great Ice cream in St. Pölten.
For me, this is not the case anymore, which is unfortunate because I really loved their products and the quality.
Let's dive into the details:
While this venue is conveniently located next to the city splash public swimming pools and a public park, it does lack of any place to sit. A couple of years ago you could enjoy your visit on the terrace, but the terrace is closed ever since.
You can only get cones or cups for take-away.
This place is cash-only. If you only have your debit- or credit card available, you're out of luck, no matter how much you order.
It seems that the neighbors are not too fond of the business or the customers. That is not the fault of the owner, but it does affect the customer experience:
Last time I was sitting on the stairs with my kids, the neighbor right to the entrance appeared on his terrace, swearing at us and told us to back off, even though we were not loud or intrusive at all (and the stairs are not part of his terrace).
In regard to the taste: My personal impression is that the ice cream tasted less sweet and way less artificial in the past, but taste might change and I can't tell if the product or recipe really changed, so I'd give them the benefit of doubt here, as it might just be me.
In regard to the price: You don't get too much for your money, but again, everything is way more expensive nowadays, so we might have to get used to this and I get that businesses like this have to adapt to todays economy.
The verdict: It was way better a couple of years ago, but it has since declined. Since there is no competitor in walking distance it will still find its fair share of customers.
I really hope it will find back to it's former...
