Wide beach. Water quickly becomes very deep. The day we were there, it was windy with lots of waves (red flag) so swimming in the sea was not a great experience. The next day, it was very calm (green flag), the water was crystal clear and perfect. On the sea side, there are lots of paid areas, so there free areas are limited. However, the great highlight of this beach is the Veleka River side. The river is extremely calm, you can swim in it, there's a sandy beach next to it, there is windsurfing, standup paddle board, and kayaking. Overall a great experience.
For food, try the bar on the southern tip of the beach, it has nice music and good food, though the prices are higher than others (but worth it) - 4 BGN for beer, 4 BGN for Tarator, mains are 10 BGN.
Beware regarding parking: You have two options to reach the beach by car. Most cars park in a wide meadow behind the beach, which is reached via a dirt road. You may be tempted to park underneath some trees near the sand dunes, however that area is ecologically restricted, and you'll be fined 500 BGN if you park there. The other option is to park on the cliffs above the Sinemorets side is of the beach - they are reached thru Sinemorets and are much easier on your car, but you have to walk down the cliffs to...
Read moreA long peninsula beach, with coarse sand. Inner side is a flat fresh-water river, with many people kayaking, stand-up-paddleboarding, and windsurfing. The river side is also good for smaller children, as it's protected from the waves, although there can be a bit of a current because it's the mouth of a river. Outer side is open sea, with (at least on this day in August) strong waves.
There are around five or six small shack businesses here - bars, surf shops, equipment rentals. There are a few fresh-water showers, and a single (terrible) portable toilet.
The beach is almost entirely free zone - there are a few rental umbrellas near the businesses, but the vast majority of the beach is not built up.
There are a few parking lots, one at the same level of the beach, and then a couple more up on the top of a nearby steep hill. You get to park among the goats and horses.
A much larger than usual percentage of the people here are athletic, young, and English-speaking, when we arrived, we were like, "oh! here's where the surfers hang out." Seems like more a beach for that kind of tourist as opposed...
Read moreOne of my favorite places on the Black sea. Combination of amazing mountains and forests and the nice, clean, blue waters of the sea. Veleka river is also beautiful. I call it 'the Bulgarian Amazon river'. You can observe a lot of interesting flora and fauna around it. And even endemic species. Veleka beach is lovely. It is a long stretch of sandy beach (~800 m), so there's plenty of space. The sea water was lovely in the beginning of July - Crystal clean, blue, warm (around 27°C). You can also try kayaking, or stand up paddling in Veleka river's mouth - it is very relaxing. You see green forests all around you and you listen...
