We were in Banff for a few days with three kids and didn't even see a bird. This is the area to go frankly. Pack a lunch and take the drive up and back from Canmore. We saw deer, a bull moose, ground squirrels, goats and a bald eagle. There were reports of black and grizzly bears being seen, but sadly we missed them. All in around 2 hours! The scenery is amazing and there are No Crowds!!! I will definitely make this trip again and spend more time up there! While an SUV is not required, you will certainly be more comfortable. Read moreA quick stop to enjoy Vermilion Lakes with stunning view of Mt Rundle. There is an Upper View point as well as three lower view point with decks in lake to launch Kayak or small boats. The lower Vermilion road is perfect for biking as it leads to Banff Legacy trail. There is limited parking on a busy day and only 1 washroom almost at the end of the vermilion road.
