At Banff, the Vermillion lakes are often overlooked. There are three lakes – one smaller and two larger ones. We were told that these lakes are especially beautiful at sunset, so we made sure to visit at that time. The experience did not disappoint. We walked around all three lakes and chose the one that appeared calmer, with fewer ripples. Parking our car nearby, we strolled up the boardwalk and marveled at the reflections of Mount Rundle and Sulfur Mountain on the water. We even spotted some adorable ducklings swimming in the lake. It was a truly breathtaking sight. I highly recommend visiting this spot in the evening to witness the stunning mountain reflections...

Parked at the Fenland trailhead then walked to the bridge that connects to the Vermillion Lakes road. Walked along the road until we came across a small dock that many photographers use for reflective views of Mt Rundle. It was 6:30 AM and quite cloudy so we kept walking. Once we turned around and came back to the dock, it was mostly empty because of the cloud cover. We sat on the dock for 10 min and Mt Rundle quickly came into view. It was stunning to see and we had it mostly to ourselves. Arriving right at sunrise isn’t always necessary and being patient paid off. Area is buggy so wear repellent or cover up. The only wildlife we saw were water foul...

I love to come here to watch the sunrise. It's also a great spot to see wildlife. This is a perfect spot for photographers. The mountain reflections in the water make for amazing pictures. There are so many mountain ranges in view. The road is very narrow, it barely fits two cars, so driving very slow is highly recommended. At the end of the road it's a lovely walking path that takes your...

Vermillion Lakes is a lake which is best seen from a distance. The farther away the more beautiful. Up close, it resembles an average lake and when you're on it, it becomes obvious how shallow it is. Especially late in the season where it's quite possible to get stuck. I give it 4 stars if you access it from the public dock in Banff via Forty mile creek. The creek will be the highlight, however.
