I just stopped by P&F on the way home to pick up hot dogs and chicken legs. Today it was a similar experience to the other times - quick, efficient service at the meat counter and a "thank you for coming sir" on the way out the door. I always thought sir referred to my Dad but I digress (time to dye the hair?). They have become my go-to shop for meat since moving to the area and I have yet to be disappointed by their products. A few times they have gone out of their way to find an ideal pork shoulder (I am picky for smoking) or get a freshly made batch of sausages.
Shopping list includes: Typical cooking: sausages (usually mild/spicy Italian), pork/beef mix and chicken legs. Grilling/smoking: chicken legs, whole pork shoulder, picanha Special occasions: bone marrow, osso buco, lamb shanks, oxtail
Overall I find the quality to be consistently better than the big box chains. The sausages are better than anything for the price, the chicken legs (Mennonite-sourced) universally get the thumbs up from my picky in-house dinner customers (gotta love extended family lol), and the pork shoulder always has a more uniform fat cap than Costco for my smoked pulled pork.
Since moving to Markham, I feel like it has been hard to find local mom and pop stores - I don't want a Smart Centre, I want to buy from a local business that knows where their products are sourced and take pride in their products. Bonus points for welcoming cyclists to grab a sandwich...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI've been meaning to try this place for a while and I was so glad that I did. The family felt like having steak this weekend and we wanted to buy a really good steak that was a good quality and tender. At first upon walking in I was a bit overwhelmed but after walking around and looking around I got in the queue to order. I was looking for a porterhouse steak and there was none in the meat case however once I asked if they had porterhouse avauavail, they said no problem and asked me how thick I wanted it. The steaks they came out with were really well marbled and came with a good sized tenderloin. Once I grilled it on the bbq a s let it rest, the family dug into the steaks and they turned out awesome. I have two kids and they do not like chewy meat but after eating the porterhouse they asked for seconds. The steak was that good. I used to go to Loblaws for steak but have been very disappointed the past few times we have bought steak. Never again. P&F Meats is now my go to butcher for meats. Highly...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIāve been going to this market for some time now. They have fresh eggs and recently they have grass fed beef. Iād have given them another star had my experience there at the meat counter been better. Twice in a row now when I was there, either everybody was busy at the back, or I was given attitude by the lady with the East European accent who totally ignored me when I asked for help the first time around, said someone else would help me⦠and yesterday she asked the gentleman before me needed help; when he said someone was already helping him, she walked away and chose not to even greet me. Another girl came out and served me. Nice and helpful like all the other Asian women who work there. I am Asian. If this white lady is the owner, well Iām sorry to say - you are awful! Iāll continue to go for eggs and grass fed beef steaks but Iāll be the one to ignore her from now on. Unacceptable work ethics...
