Read moreWe stumbled upon Oakville Improv entirely by accident – I was looking for an activity to get my son, 12 at the time, out of the house and away from the computer. We’d tried many things before, but they were always met with a lukewarm – at best – response.
I’d read that improv was great for kids, particularly those lacking focus, and suggested we give it a try. Over two years later, I can confidently say it’s one of the best things we’ve ever done. He LOVES it. I love it. I love how much he loves it!!!! He’s a different kid on that stage, in the best possible way. He’s gained so much confidence, and he looks forward to the session every week. The instruction is incredible – Amy is unbelievably gifted, as a teacher, improviser and human – and you couldn’t ask for a friendlier, more inclusive and accepting group of participants.
If you’re curious, interested in developing new skills, in need of a laugh, or just looking for something different – try a drop-in, or sign up for a class. Don’t over-think it.
It has been the biggest gift...
Read moreOakville Improv changed my life. I was stuck. I couldn't see my next step. They helped me to get moving again. I showed up to drop-in classes for the fun, supportive environment where I could add some laughs to my week. Soon after, I signed up for the intro and performance classes. With the encouragement of the instructors, who have a knack for bringing out abilities people can't access by themselves, I started to not care about looking foolish in front of people and to take more risks. I also started rolling with the unexpected things life throws at me, and having more fun with things that weren't so much fun before. I was eventually given the opportunity to be in a show and this changed everything. I began to see possibilities for myself that I didn't see before and I found myself asking, "If I can do this, what could be next for me?"
The instructors and the community are among the most welcoming and supportive I've seen. I highly recommend coming in for a Monday night drop-in or signing up...
