My wife and I paid for Via One Ottawa to Toronto return, Train numbers 47 and 40 on Friday and Monday 22 - 25 August respectively. The service on Train 47 was good and the food was excellent. However the train journey was two and a half hours late through no fault of Via. (There was a fire near the tracks at Napanee.) Via Rail have offered adequate compensation, 50% off future travel between Ottawa and Toronto to be taken within the year. This is fair and Via should be commended.
Although the beverage service on the return journey Train 40 was very good and met the standard one would expect in business class, the food and attitude of one of the cabin attendants was not. By the time the food trolley had reached row 14, the only option available was chicken, and when it got to me in 14B, they had run out of that too. The food was tasteless, atrocious best describes it. What passed as a âsaladâ looked like cold vegetables from the day before. Although the attitude of the attendant serving the food was poor, her colleague was professional, efficient and friendly.
Overall my experience on this return journey was very disappointing, unlike previous journeys I have taken on Via One which have all...

However, trains are rarely on time (not entirely VIA's fault due to them not owning the tracks), it lacks a coffee shop (or even a coffee vending machine), and there somehow are no USB outlets in the terminal for use by travellers. In 2024, the lack of USB chargers in a public transportation terminal is very odd, and very inconvenient. "VIA rail: travel like it's 1950, but with an app that tells you how...
