We stayed at the Cottages On Salt Spring Island in a 2 bedroom duplex for 1 week in August and there were some really great things about this place but there were also some very disappointing things.

The GREAT THINGS : The view from our decks were very peaceful and so beautiful. The 2 bedroom/2.5 bath cottage had a great layout with a powder room on the main floor and the bedrooms on separate floors. The beds were super comfy. The cottages were close to town and really not a far drive from anything.

The DISAPPOINT THINGS: The website advertised Paddle Boarding, Canoeing and Bike riding which we were all excited to do. However for the 40+ cottages there were only 2 paddleboards, even though the main desk told us there were at least 10, 1 canoe and we never did see the bikes. The cleaning was not great when we arrived. The deck could of had a bit of a sweep before we arrived. All 3 toilets had rings in the toilet bowls. The hand soap in the powder room was so watered down it really was just water. There is no dishwasher in this unit so the dishes need to be washed by hand. We had to rewash every dish, bowl and utensil before we used it. One knife was put away with jam still on it :( The unit was meant for 4 people but the little tiny coffee pot only made small cups of coffee. A larger pot would be much better. Although there were 2 full bathrooms for each bedroom the basement didn't have a shower or hand held wand in the massive deep bathtub so all 4 of us had to use the humongous bathroom upstairs in the loft. We were only given 2 towels & 2 facecloths each for 4 adults for 1 week. We were given 2 dishtowels and a 1/4 bottle of watered down dish soap.

However, when we did text for more towels, facecloths, toilet paper, dishwashing soap and paper towels the staff were quick to bring it down to us.

Our neighbour was an absolute pleasure and gave us tons of information about the cottages, island and where we needed to go. He even surprised us all one night with espresso martins while we were all sitting outside enjoying the beautiful evening.

We would come back to the Cottages on Salt Spring but I think we would be very selective on which unit we stayed in.

Friends of ours joined us a few days later and stayed in a single unit and it...

What a perfect weekend getaway at our Lakeview Cottage 15 (pet-free). Our friends traveling with their pets were in Cottage 18 which was very close. The weather conditions were incredible, 16 to 19 degrees Celsius every day. We saw turtles, woodpeckers, frogs, otters, owls and sparrows! The property is located less than a 6-minute drive to the Marina/town. Loved the convenience of receiving an email with a check-in code for our unit door and not requiring to first check-in at their office. ||The dock on Bullock Lake, just passed cottage 38 was serene. We had it all to ourselves for the 2-night stay (delightfully surprised no one else was around). We had access to their paddle boards and canoes which we used. ||Our cottage was fully equipped with a blender, cooking utensils and modern appliances. Well kept unit with clean floors and counter tops, furniture was intact (no noticeable stains/damage) and spacious for the 2 of us. We slept in both beds and preferred the lower floor King bed over the upstairs King as the lower bedroom's bed was firmer. The large soaker tub on the top floor (we didn't use it) was nice for anybody who loves bathes. I loved the view of the lake from the spacious balcony off the living room. Between the similar rates of the Lakeview and Lakeside, I'm glad we selected Lakeview as it was higher up and got more sun. Lakeside is closer to the lake but some Lakeside cottages are shaded due to the trees blocking it. ||Read reviews of some diva complaining about paying all this money only to have to throw away their garbage. Being BC residents and from Vancouver, we don't mind composting, recycling and separating garbage at the end of our stay. We simply packed it up in the trunk of our car and disposed of at the receptacles - conveniently located just before driving off the property. ||Sarah (manager) and Alicia (assistant manager) were pleasant to deal with and they made our friends first time (and celebrating one of their birthdays) on Salt Spring Island feel welcome with a card and non-alcoholic sparkling wine! 10 out of 10 definitely recommend The Cottages on Salt...
