If we are rating them just based in their pizza its 5's all around. Best pizza on the island. But I decided to try something new at this new restaurant. I got an open faced pizza burger and she got a lasagna and we split an open faced donair sandwich.

The sandwiches are outstanding and I'd give em a Michellin star for it if I could; particularly the donair sandwich. Donair pizza is great but its too much and donair is awesome but its a ritual and can be a mess if you don't respect it. The open faced donair samdwich walks the line perfectly and is cleaner than the pizza and donair but also the perfect serving size without being too much.

The lasagna though was problematic. My mom took a few bites and said it was too spicy. I was intrigued because I love a good arrabiatta sauce. But then I tried it and it was disgusting. It was spicy but the wrong kind of spicy. It had waaaaaay too much cumin in itโ€”it tasted more like a Texas chili than any lasagna I ever had. Cumin is the ingredients that separates Mexican and Italian food... If you use it you need the lightest of touches(I'd omit it completely).

That being said it wasn't bad. It was only disgusting in its affront to decorum. Once I adjusted it was good... I just think it has no business being called lasagna.

Their pizza is goated and the open faced sandwiches divine. Highly...

If you're from Whitney Pier, you were devastated when you found out the Pizza Palace was closing.

I couldn't think of a better business to take it's place.

Joany's is amazing. I've been supporting their George St location for years. I was able to check out the new shop this week and it's beautiful. Great renovation. The space is bright and fresh.

The best part: the food is top notch. I had an open loader. It was delicious.

Make sure you...
