This is the largest of the 4 Tai Tam Reservoirs in the Tai Tam Country Park on Hong Kong Island. It was constructed between 1912-17 and is the furthest south in the valley. This teal green lake offers attractive hiking grounds and forms part of the interesting Tai Tam Waterworks Heritage Trail, which takes in 22 Declared Monuments around the four reservoirs, a handful of which are found here at Tai Tam Tuk.
The masonry dam of Tai Tam Tuk on the the east end of the lake is impressive, you will also find the historic valve house there that is nice to see. A handful of other monument buildings found around the lake to the east. You'll be able to find these by reading up on the information and map stations found along the trail as it passes by the lake. Most interesting however is the beautiful masonry bridge located on the southwest side of Tai Tam Tuk. Read moreEasy hike, very suitable for families including young kids. Tai Tam Mound Fall is a highlight, but takes more skills to get to. Upper section is somewhat easily accessible, but lower section with the pool at the bottom of the waterfall requires some steep descent and ascent. Moderate climbing skills, holding on to trees etc. are best. Better not trying to go there if it has rained recently as it would be very slippery. Read moreThis Reservoir features some unique bridges and dam construction. Built in 1907. The dams are situated in some very beautiful countryside and is Easily accessed. We took bus no 6 and got of at Wan Ysai sin Gap area. We walked up Tai Tam Reservoir Road and followed to the Dams. We would recommend taking the Family walk trail on the right. Following that will led you to a great view. An easy walk from there to the road. Take bus 16m or 16x to Chai Wan MTR. Allow about 3 hours for photos taking.
