I am struggling to find the correct words to describe this experience. Yes, it was educational. Yes, it was heartbreaking. It was also uplifting to read and see the exhibits celebrating the people that stayed in Nanjing to establish a safe zone, those that risked their lives to try to protect the innocent. The juxtaposition of a foreign invading force causing such devastation, murder, and rape, and the foreigners that risked their lives to stay and help is staggering. We humans are strange creatures, capable of both the cruelist and the most incredible things. We must remember these things to ensure they will not happen again.

It is important for people to visit this memorial as part of a tour to China. It allows the visitor a very important insight into the Chinese culture and one can see the impact the 2 World War attrocities had on normal citizens, the weak, elderly, women and children. It is devisating to learn 300 000 innocent people perished in the worst conditions imaginable.

Very well made memorial side, very intense. Try to go during the week if you have the chance since it's very crowded on the weekends and keep in mind that the side is closed on Mondays. English explanations are available everywhere, entrance is free of charge, I would recommend to reserve at least three hours time for the visit.

This is a memorial for the Chinese lives lost when the Japanese invaded Nanjing city. At the memorial, you are allowed to take photos, but smile or giggle since it is offensive and disrespectful to the souls lost at this very site. Infact, the memorial is an actual burial site of the Chinese who were killed in the invasion. The memorial consists of a gallery and the burial ground. Maintain a sombre mood...
