you can go solo. no need for excursion but you need to consider renting a motorcycle (not a car or a buggy because it’s hard to get around) the cave water was very very cold. a lot of mosquitoes. it gets crowded very quick. you form a line up to get inside of the water. water is very deep (25 feet to be precise.) very blue. a bit dangerous, very slippery. be careful with the younger kids. overheard a lot of people mentioning peeing in the water.. also to note: you could pay for a tour which goes for around 100$ US dollars. but all the destinations are actually free. you’re paying for transport AND rental of a buggy AND the guide AND maybe food. you visit the macao beach and the cave which are both open to the public. free of charge. FREE. vendors are a bit pushy although he understood after a simple handshake of ‘no’. they have funny market stand with a cardboard written Punta Cana ‘JC PENNY’, ‘WAL-MART’, ‘COSTCO’ and much more. they have a trash to prevent littering. have fun...
