Rancho Pin Buggy Punta Cana SCAMMERS - we bought our tour from a rep at our resort. When we arrived they targeted us and asked if we wanted a private tour guide for an extra $25 per person allowing us to move at our own pace and choose when we departed the spots we visited and leave immediately rather than waiting for the group. We accepted and paid the money, left as promised only to find out the "regular" group left with in seconds of us a followed right behind. When we arrived at Macao beach out "private" guide brought us to a table where his buddies asked if we would like a cocktail, we ordered four, they tried to upsell to having our drinks in coconuts but we declined. Thank goodness because the scammers there charged us $25 US per drink. My guide said it was my fault for not seeing the prices in advance. I am sure he got a nice cut of that. for the rest of the drive we followed the "regular" group to the supposed cocao and coffee demonstration. Which was right back at the buggy camp and was nothing more than a 2 min talk to ask us to buy items for sale where some of the money would benefit the children, and we got a taste of coffee, cocao, and tea. I said we did not want to go here but I guess that was not an option. Then we left a second after the "regular " group and proceeded to the cave cenote. Our guide escorted us to another of his buddies and asked if we wanted a beer or water or soda. This was only $5 us for the beer and $2 us for the water. We then walked down the step to the cenote while being harrassed by vendors. The usually beautiful water was mud brown from all the drivers jumping in for a few minutes before being told to depart and move on. We stopped to purchase a few items at the vendors and our guide was visably upset that we were taking too long as he had to prepare for the next group to rip off. I am sure there are reputable companies out there but THIS IS NOT ONE OF THEM. ...
Read moreBeware when paying by a credit card. We agreed upon a price for a group (4 adults and 4 children) and paid using credit card. I was never told about any additional charges when paying by card. I did not have internet (US mobile) and could not verify the charged amount on my card. Same for bandanas and photos, paid by credit card. After reaching resort, i found out that they charged 18-20% more on each transaction and when asked they said that they it is18% tax since when paid by card. The receipt they gave me showed amount in US$ and was the agreed amount without tax. They were going to call me to resolve the issue but never did. I had to open a dispute with my credit card bank and am waiting for a resolution. I was told that Punta Cana respected tourists to a great extent and it is a stark reminder that these kind of dishonest people do...
