We are reviewing the Yin Yang Spa attached to the Presidential Suites resort in Cabarete. Since they do not appear on Google Maps, we are listing it under their Puerto Plata location, but it is the same chain.
So, the prices at the spa are less than in the US, but still pricey. They were kind enough to give us a 20% discount, and not too pushy about the sale.
Here are the positives: Right at the resort Once you book, you can use their spa facilities (these vary from location to location- in our case a sauna and a jacuzzi only) for the rest of your stay. Nice perk.
Negatives: The spa itself is ok, but not one of the nicer ones we have seen. It is clean though. Sauna is tiny - only 2 people at a time. Jacuzzi is warm, not hot Manicure was great until, at the last minute, the manicurist cut a little more nail on 2 fingers, after the polish had been applied. It messed up the polish and she did not bother to fix it. The chocolate package with complete body scrub, chocolate body mask and 25 min massage cut corners. Though the therapist was very nice, a few things did not work about the treatment. First, it was supposed to be a scrub, then washed off, then a mask. She combined the 2, thereby eliminating the effects of the mask and making it rather uncomfortable to lie with large, harsh scrub grains all over the body on a table, wrapped in plastic, for 15 minutes. This should have been 2 separate procedures. The massage started out well on the legs. It seems she understood the leg muscles well. The rest of the massage on the back, shoulders, neck, arms, head and face can only be described as akin to being mauled by a bear. It was rough and fast, hair was pulled multiple times, upper body was lifted and arched without warning that resulted in a low back muscle spasm. Not happy about any of that. Looking at the experience overall, maybe skip the spa thing here. There's a lot to do and spend money...
Read moreWe did a little bit of research on Google and found this spa with good reviews, although not that many. We booked a 2 hour package that included massage, facial and a foot scrub.
Massage was of a good quality.
Facial was very questionable. During the facial, most of the time we were just laying on the table without any interaction from a therapist. They just did few manipulations here and there. The staff was pleasant and accommodating at the best of their abilities. The foot scrub was way too fast!
There was no explanation of a treatment in any way. We don’t know what products were used, what type of facial. It would be great to communicate such things since it was our first time. And there wasn’t language barrier because we both speak fluent Spanish.
The package also supposed to include a bottle of champagne. Instead, it was some cheap sparkling wine. False advertisement.
The facilities are very outdated and need renovation. Seems like the spa was put together somewhere in the 90s and haven’t been touched since. The massage tables didn’t have a face cradle but a hole in the table instead which wasn’t a comfortable experience laying face down.

Read moreI visited the spa on Saturday for couples massage. The price was far sand standard in US dollars (credit cards accepted). The 2 masseuse were warm and kind. The room was surrounded by nature. It was cool in the room and an aroma of peppermint wafted the air. Arasely and Rainy delivered our massages. The room itself was generic, the staff did not try to sell you any products or up charges. The tables were comfortable. The only thing was no baskets for storage available and the room was a little small for couples. The massage itself was Outstanding!! The masseuse applied deep pressure as requested and used proper strokes and technique. She was cognizant of the trouble areas and took time to focus on them. They delivered amazing massages without a health history request for special areas etc. She new what she was doing and used the body as her guide. They were so professional and efficient I...
