Look no further and book with Akangau! I did 3 tours with them + transport to and from Quito + accommodation. Belén was so fantastic, professional and responsive always. I always felt safe and respected — 5-star service at budget pricing.
Her English is also very good if you need it. If you don’t see the exact tour you want on the site, send a message on WhatsApp and they will accommodate as best they can.
DEFINITELY DO RAFTING AND KAYAKING! It was the highlight of my whole trip to Ecuador and the best I’ve done anywhere. The guides are very experienced, safety conscious and fun and they have high quality, new gear (almost everything is NRS brand). Ask for Venencio (Vens) and Emerson. Very smart and kind and Emerson is a top notch photographer. On the 2nd day I went with 2 families who have never rafted (some couldn’t even swim) and the guides went out of their way to make them feel safe and they quickly were loving every minute.
The day trip to Amazoonico wildlife reserve, cacao farm, jungle hike and tubing was also really good. Jaime was very knowledgeable and kind.
One thing I especially liked about Akangau is all of their guides are Indigenous from the surrounding area, so you are actively supporting local communities who are struggling from reduced tourism. And they are also very sustainability-conscious down to guaranteeing that nobody leaves a speck of trash anywhere.
Come to the Amazon, come to Tena, book everything with Akangau. You will not regret it. 10 stars ⭐️...
Read moreIf you are looking for a local tour in the Amazon in Ecuador, look no further. We had a great experience with Akangau Tours and our guide Efrain, who comes from a Kichwa family himself. In advance we requested a jungle tour that involved both culture and nature, and Akangau tours came up with a 2 day plan adapted to our personal wishes. Our guide Efrain knew a lot about the jungle, the different plants and animals, and the history of the Kichwas. He could answer any question and came up with a lot of interesting stories and facts about the Amazone and his community. After a first day with a jungle hike, making (and eating!) chocolate, seeing Caimans, and swimming in the river, we slept in a beautiful wooden house near his family. Early in the morning we attended a guayusa ceremony with him and his grandfather by the campfire, which was a very special experience. That day we walked a tough but amazing hike through the jungle, with a lot of swimming in between. We definitely recommend this tour, thank you Efrain and Akangau Tours for the great experience! An extra thanks: when we forgot something important in the community in the jungle, they went looking for it and sent it to our hostel in Tena by taxi the next day, which we really...
Read moreWe did a 5 night/6 day camping trip in the Upper & Lower Amazon which was absolutely fantastic! As there were only 2 of us, Akangau helpfully devised a bespoke trip which replaced the petroglyphs part for route of dreams. Our guide Ivan - aka the mosquito - was wonderful. Such a friendly guy and a true jungle expert who showed us so many amazing things (plants, animals, how to whistle to birds, fishing, how to make backpacks from leaves and traditional hunting methods). We absolutely loved the trip which felt like a national geographic expedition! The camp sites were in beautiful locations, we saw no other tourists and felt like we were deep in the jungle, a real escape from civilization. If you're thinking of a trip like this make sure you're up for hiking up rivers in the rain, swimming through flooded canyons, getting muddy, bathing in rivers and using the jungIe as your bathroom. Sitting by the camp fire at night listening to the sounds of the jungle was incredible. Ivan also cooked us delicious meals on our camp fire each day. Really recommend Akangau, Ivan and camping in the jungle! Don't miss experiencing the...
